  • The Presbyterian Church in America’s Mission to North America ESL page has information on starting and running programs, getting training, and a promotional video that churches can share to recruit teachers.

  • The Center for Adult English Language Acquisition (CAELA) has put together this toolkit for program directors and teachers of adult English learners. It includes background information on adult learners, activity packets for assessment and teaching, information for working in family literacy and parent education, and other resources and information.

  • English Teaching as Christian Mission: An Applied Theology (book) by Donald Snow is a good overview for Christians using English as a way to build relationships cross-culturally.

  • More than a Native Speaker (book) by Donald Snow addresses how native English speakers with little or no training as teachers can work professionally abroad, covering topics such as international educational systems, cultural transition, working with students of various skill levels and ages, and lesson planning and assessment.

  • Teaching English Language Learners the Good News: Free downloadable manual for church-based teachers; this is used in the weekend trainings offered by the Southern Baptist Convention and Mission to North America.
