Propective Team Members:
The focus of the research group will be on understanding changes in Water Systems through experiments/field-scale observations and mathematical modelling, and assessing their impacts on the environment and well-being of populations, directly or indirectly exposed to the stresses from local to regional scales.
If you are interested in joining as a Master's student/PhD Scholar/Postdoctoral Researcher, please see below.
Applicants should have a degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field, and a demonstrated interest or zeal to work.
Note: Applicant needs to fulfill necessary admission criteria of IIT Kharagpur for a specific position (M.Tech., PhD, Postdoc).
Research Topics:
Water flow in the vadose zone and contaminant fate and transport
Groundwater flow and contaminant transport modelling
In-house model development (modifying the existing models) for contaminant transport in the porous media
Managed aquifer recharge (MAR)
Health risk assessment of subsurface environment below waste dumping site/landfill
Climate change impacts on water quality and associated population health.
Application of Machine learning in Contaminant Hydrology and Environmental Sciences
Preferred qualifications:
Software (at least one for PhD and Postdoc Applicant: COMSOL Multiphysics, HYDRUS, MODFLOW family software)
Programming skills (at least one for PhD and Postdoc Applicant: MATLAB, C++, Python, R, JULIA)
Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration and research
Good communication skills and interest in mentoring (for Postdoc Applicant)
A publication record in relevant areas (for Postdoc Applicant)
Experience with fieldwork and survey (not compulsory, but it would be an asset)
Want to collaborate?
I am seeking collaborations in water resources and environmental engineering. If your interests overlap with my research areas, feel free to reach out. Email me with a brief, point-by-point (3-4 points) of your research idea(s) that align with my knowledge. With a good alignment, I am open to collaboration at any academic level (in-person or remotely), regardless of your affiliation.
