Quarter 1 (Units 1-10) Theme: Me, My World and Community

Unit 1 Introducing Yourself

Vocabulary and Grammar Focus: Names, alphabet, "to be" with names/identities 

WIDA Language Objective: Students will use short sentences to say their name and ask someone else's name. (Standard 1)

Unit 2 My Home and Family 

Vocabulary and Grammar Focus:  Family members, animals, possessive adjectives (my, your)

WIDA Language Objective: Students will ask and answer questions about family and home (Stand1)

Unit 3 Daily Routines

Vocabulary and Grammar Focus:  Days of week, routines, simple present (I go, she works)

WIDA Language Objective: Students will describe their daily routine using simple present (Stand1)

Unit 4 My City/Neighborhood

Vocabulary and Grammar Focus:  Places in town, directions, prepositions of place

WIDA Language Objective:Students will ask and tell where things are in their community (Stand1)

Unit 5 Hobbies and Free Time

Vocabulary and Grammar Focus:  Hobbies, like + -ing, simple present questions (Do you like …?)

WIDA Language Objective: Students will talk about what they like doing in free time (Stand1)

Unit 6 School Life 

Vocabulary and Grammar Focus:  School subjects, classroom objects, simple present questions

WIDA Language Objective: Students will ask and answer about their school and subjects (Stand1)

Unit 7 Shopping and Food 

Vocabulary and Grammar Focus: Food items, count, how much? (prices)

WIDA Language Objective: Students will ask and answer simple questions about shopping and food (Stand1)

Unit 8 Transport and Travel Basics

Vocabulary and Grammar Focus: Means of transport, directions, there is/are

WIDA Language Objective: Students will describe how they get to places and what’s in a location (Stand1)

Unit 9 Health and Body

Vocabulary and Grammar Focus: Parts of the body, simple present (I have…), health problems

WIDA Language Objective: Students will identify body parts and talk about simple health issues (Stand1)

Unit 10 Weather and Seasons 

Vocabulary and Grammar Focus: Weather vocabulary, seasons, adverbs of frequency (often, sometimes)

WIDA Language Objective: Students will describe the weather and talk about how often things happen (Stand1)

Quarter 2 (Units 11-20) Theme: Life in the Community and Work

Unit 11 Jobs and Workplaces

Vocabulary and Grammar Focus: Jobs vocabulary, works at…, simple present

WIDA Language Objective: Students will ask/answer about what people do and where they work (Stand1)

Unit 12 Money, Shopping and Services

Vocabulary and Grammar Focus: Money vocabulary, shopping verbs, count

WIDA Language Objective: Students will participate in basic transactional dialogues (Stand1)

Unit 13 Travel and Transport in the City 

Vocabulary and Grammar Focus: Transport, directions, prepositions of place

WIDA Language Objective: Students will give/get directions and describe how to go somewhere (Stand1)

Unit 14 Environment and Places

Vocabulary and Grammar Focus: City/town, natural places, simple present vs. present continuous

WIDA Language Objective: Students will compare places using simple sentences (Stand1)

Unit 15 Invitations and Going Out

Vocabulary and Grammar Focus: Phrases: invite, accept, decline; present continuous (“I’m going to…”)

WIDA Language Objective: Students will invite someone and respond in simple language (Stand1)

Unit 16 Technology and Communication

Vocabulary and Grammar Focus: Devices vocabulary, present perfect intro (I’ve got…), simple past intro

WIDA Language Objective: Students will talk about what technology they’ve used or had (Stand1/Stand2)

Unit 17 Media and Entertainment 

Vocabulary and Grammar Focus: Movies, music, review vocabulary; adjectives + -ing

WIDA Language Objective: Students will give short opinions about entertainment in simple sentences (Stand2)

Unit 18 Review and Project

Vocabulary and Grammar Focus: Integrate units 11-17, project work (community, job)

WIDA Language Objective: Students will present a simple community or job project (Stand2)

Unit 19 Past Events and Experiences

Vocabulary and Grammar Focus: Regular/irregular past simple, time expressions (yesterday, last week)

WIDA Language Objective: Students will talk about one or two past experiences using past tense (Stand2)

Unit 20 Future Plans and Goals

Vocabulary and Grammar Focus:“going to”, future vocabulary (plan, hope, aim)

WIDA Language Objective: Students will state one or two simple future plans (Stand2)
