Each K-6 class will have one or two class lessons per month. Class lessons support students' academic, social-emotional, and career development.Â
Prevention and Early Intervention: Lessons help prevent problems before they arise (i.e., by teaching coping and social skills).
Development of Life Skills: Topics such as goal-setting, decision-making, time management, emotional regulation, and career exploration may be covered.
Promoting Positive School Climate: Lessons can build empathy, inclusion, and respect among students, and can contribute to a healthier school environment.
Support Academic Success: Lessons may include study skills, motivation skills (i.e., setting goals), and college and career awareness which can improve current student academic performance.
The year will begin with an object lesson on following directions where students will learn how to make a balloon dog. The next lessons will concentrate on learning about the Mood Meters & making a Class Charter. We will then learn about the upstairs and downstairs brain and how coping skills are helpful. After this, the lessons will continue to be added to the EBD Unit slide deck as they become available.
