If you want professional studio monitoring with a semi-open design and software-enhanced spatial accuracy for mixing, choose ESI Extra 10; if you need deep bass, surgical detail separation, and a customizable tuning switch for gaming or live performance, choose CCA Rhapsody 4-Mode. These two pieces of gear serve fundamentally different masters: one is built for the quiet precision of a control room, while the other is engineered for the dynamic energy of the stage and the immersive depth of high-fidelity listening.
• ESI Extra 10: Offers a semi-open back design that reduces low-frequency build-up for seamless mixing, but lacks active noise cancellation and requires a wired connection to an interface. Best for producers who need to hear the truth of their mix without isolation.
• CCA Rhapsody 4-Mode: Features a 12-driver hybrid system with a physical tuning switch to alter sound signatures instantly, but its in-ear fit isolates the user from ambient studio cues. Best for DJs, gamers, and musicians who demand powerful bass and customizable tonal profiles.
The ESI Extra 10 is not just another pair of headphones; it is a dedicated tool for the serious audio engineer or producer who refuses to compromise on frequency response. At its core, this device utilizes 50mm neodymium drivers capable of reproducing a massive frequency range from 15Hz to 29kHz. This isn't marketing fluff; it means you are hearing the full spectrum of your production, from the deepest sub-bass rumble to the highest air frequencies where cymbals decay. The semi-open back design is the critical feature here. By allowing a small amount of air exchange, it prevents the resonances and pressure buildup common in fully closed cans, resulting in a more natural, unfiltered window into true-to-life studio sound. If you are working on a track that needs to translate perfectly across different playback systems, this acoustic transparency is non-negotiable.
Who should buy this? You are likely a home studio owner, a mastering engineer, or a DJ who spends hours in the booth crafting mixes. The lightweight construction, weighing in at just 225 grams, ensures that you can wear them for extended sessions without fatigue. The ear pads are made from durable materials designed to adjust automatically to any head size, which is vital when you are sitting still for four hours straight tweaking a vocal chain. Furthermore, the inclusion of the dSONIQ Realphones ESI Edition software elevates this from a simple headphone to a virtual control room. With a single click, you can simulate how your mix sounds on high-end HiFi speakers, portable devices, or even earbuds, all without taking the headphones off. This capability is essential for checking your final master in various environments before sending it out to the world.

However, you should skip this product if your workflow relies on absolute silence or if you plan to use these in noisy environments like a busy club or a loud gym. Because they are semi-open, they do not offer passive noise cancellation. They will leak sound out, and outside noise will bleed in. Additionally, they are strictly wired with a 3.5mm jack and a 98-inch cable. While the length provides freedom to move around your desk, it eliminates the convenience of wireless connectivity. If you need to walk away from your mixing console while tracking or monitoring, the tethered nature of the ESI Extra 10 might feel restrictive compared to modern wireless standards. It is a stationary tool for stationary work, prioritizing acoustic purity over mobility.
The CCA Rhapsody 4-Mode is an engineering marvel designed for those who crave control over their sonic landscape. Unlike the ESI, which aims for a flat, neutral presentation, the Rhapsody is built to be versatile and aggressive. It houses a complex 12-driver configuration per side, combining dual 8mm dynamic drivers with four custom 31736 balanced armatures. This hybrid architecture is where the magic happens: the dynamic drivers handle the low frequencies and rich mids, delivering the punchy bass required for EDM or hip-hop, while the balanced armatures take care of the crisp highs and ultra-high frequencies, ensuring every instrument remains distinct. This setup creates a wide soundstage and precise imaging, making it ideal for revealing subtle details like footsteps in a game or the texture of a hi-hat in a dense mix.
The standout feature for a buyer torn between options is undoubtedly the 4-Stage Tuning Switch. This is not a digital EQ slider; it is a physical hardware toggle that allows you to reconfigure the bass, mids, and treble on the fly. You can switch from a bass-enhanced profile perfect for energetic club sets to a balanced tuning for casual listening, or an analytical mode for critical monitoring. This flexibility makes it arguably one of the best true wireless-style options for a DJ who needs to adapt their monitoring experience instantly based on the venue or the set they are playing. The ergonomic resin shell fits securely in the ear, providing passive noise cancellation that blocks out the chaos of a crowded room, allowing you to focus entirely on the beat.
This product is perfect for the audiophile, the competitive gamer, or the singer looking for a monitor that offers both comfort and clarity. The detachable 0.75mm 2-pin silver-plated cable adds a layer of longevity and customization, letting you upgrade your cable later if you wish. However, the trade-off is that it is an in-ear monitor (IEM) with a closed-back design. While this isolates you well, it also creates a "closed" feeling that some purists dislike when trying to achieve the open, airy sound of a large room. The impedance is lower at 15 ohms with a sensitivity of 102 dB, meaning it is easier to drive than many studio monitors, but it may lack the sheer power and dynamic headroom of the ESI when paired with high-end amplifiers. It is a fantastic tool for portability and versatility, but it sacrifices the specific acoustic openness required for certain types of analog mixing workflows.

• Best for bass impact and genre versatility → CCA Rhapsody 4-Mode, utilizing its dual dynamic drivers and tunable hardware switch.
• Best for long-duration studio sessions → ESI Extra 10, due to its lightweight 225g weight and comfortable leather/foam ear pads.

• Best for software-integrated monitoring → ESI Extra 10, which includes the dSONIQ Realphones plugin to simulate various speaker environments.
• Best for customizable sound profiles → CCA Rhapsody 4-Mode, offering physical toggles to change the signature from bass-heavy to analytical.
• Best for gaming and spatial awareness → CCA Rhapsody 4-Mode, where the 12-driver hybrid setup excels at directional audio and environmental cues.
• Best for durability and cable upgrades → CCA Rhapsody 4-Mode, featuring a detachable 2-pin cable system compared to the fixed 3.5mm connection of the ESI.
In my opinion, if you are a professional DJ or producer focused on the craft of mixing and mastering, the ESI Extra 10 is the only logical choice. Its semi-open design and integration with modeling software provide a level of acoustic honesty that simply cannot be replicated by a sealed in-ear monitor. However, if your primary goal is to find the best sports earbuds for DJing or the best noise cancelling open ear earbuds for dj that offer a portable, rugged solution with heavy bass, the CCA Rhapsody 4-Mode takes the crown. I would personally buy the ESI Extra 10 for my main studio setup because the ability to hear the subtle nuances of a mix without the coloration of a closed box is irreplaceable. For everything else—gaming, commuting, or on-the-go monitoring—the CCA Rhapsody's tunable hardware and immersive soundstage make it the superior companion. Both are excellent tools, but they solve completely different problems.
Yes, both units come with a standard 3.5mm jack. The ESI Extra 10 includes a plated adapter for larger inputs, while the CCA Rhapsody works directly with most phones and laptops, though you may need a dongle for devices without a headphone jack.
Neither model features active electronic noise cancellation. The ESI Extra 10 is semi-open and will let ambient sound in, while the CCA Rhapsody 4-Mode relies solely on its in-ear fit for passive noise isolation.
Since both products are wired headphones, they do not rely on internal batteries for operation. You will never run out of power during a session, provided your source device is charged and the cables remain connected.
You can, especially with the tuning switch set to a balanced or analytical profile, but the closed-back design limits the soundstage compared to the semi-open ESI Extra 10, which is generally preferred for critical mixing tasks.
