Eshona: A Beacon of Research at Dr. B.K.B. College, Puranigudam
‘Eshona’ stands as the prominent bilingual journal published by Dr. Birinchi Kumar Barooah College, Puranigudam, situated in the culturally and historically rich Nagaon District of Assam. Launched in 2022, the journal represents a significant step by the college towards fostering a serious and sustained research culture among its faculty members and contributing to the wider academic discourse.
The inception of Eshona (which means ‘search’ or ‘quest’) was the result of a deliberate proposal and contemplation within the college’s Governing Body, aiming to create a dedicated platform for scholarly work. As a bilingual and yearly publication, Eshona strategically caters to a diverse academic community. It primarily publishes research papers in both Assamese and English, reflecting the linguistic and academic environment of Assam. This bilingual nature ensures that scholarly contributions rooted in local language and culture, alongside those engaging with broader national and international themes, find an appropriate platform.
The journal is research-oriented and is structured as a peer-reviewed publication, a critical feature that ensures the quality, originality and academic rigour of the accepted papers. This rigorous review process helps maintain high scholarly standards and builds credibility for the journal within the academic fraternity.
The scope of Eshona is interdisciplinary, welcoming scientific and research discussions across a broad range of subjects. Its focus areas include, but are not limited to, language, literature, society, culture, economics and other relevant academic fields. By embracing a multi-disciplinary approach, the journal encourages faculty members from various departments, from Humanities and Social Sciences to other scientific disciplines offered by the college, to showcase their intellectual endeavours.
The journal’s publication is a key part of Dr. B.K.B. College’s broader commitment to academic excellence, which has been performing vital service in higher education for the rural and marginalized sections of society since its establishment in 1967. Logically, Eshona, serves as a tangible expression of the college's intellectual dynamism. It not only provides an essential avenue for faculty research dissemination but also acts as a repository of scholarly knowledge, accessible to students, researchers and the wider public.
