European Study Groups with Industry (ESGI) started with the first Study Group in Oxford in 1968, under the name of Oxford Study Groups with Industry. This successful experience resulted in very fruitful connections between mathematicians and industrialists, so that the concept has been adopted later on by other European countries. The approach of this one-week workshop is to tackle real world problems using the universal language of mathematics, with the aim of offering new methods which may lead to further industrial achievements. Year after year, this meeting has become an internationally recognised problem-solving forum for knowledge sharing. Previous editions have been attended by well established brands, such as Philips, Unilever and IBM.
The problem-solving workshop aims to provide an exclusive opportunity for interactions between mathematicians, scientists and industrialists. The interested companies submit real problems coming from their everyday experience, while the organisers guarantee the participation of experts in the appropriate research field.
