Why We Made This Book
"Escape the Brain" was intended to teach kids who are interested in how the brain works as the two main characters explore the different parts of the brain and its functions. We hope that this will help inspire others who are also interested in the fascinating ways the brain work.
Step 1:
We first had to come up with a rough plotline that would be engaging but also educational, and that is when the characters of Maya and Freya were created. We created each task relating to the 5 main parts of the brain and their function: frontal lobe, parietal lobe, temporal lobe, occipital lobe, and the brain stem.
Step 2:
After finishing the rough draft, we started to illustrate specific scenes from the story. We spent more than 2 hours on each drawing, in order to help fully capture the story through the drawings.
Step 3:
After the illustrations were drawn and the final edits were made to the story, we were able to put both the pictures and story together and finally publish "Escape the Brain."
