What have you learned about your identity in relation to language? What did you learn about how have learned to language and what role all the different experience you have had in your life did to the way you use language? Had you already given these topic thought? Did you find new things?
Regarding language, throughout my 18 years of life, I have learned that it is an element that makes up my life and that it will never stop growing. My first language is Spanish, and over time I have learned English. However, I have never stopped learning Spanish, and I have come to assimilate that learning a language is limitless. I understood that languages are the tool that shapes thoughts and ideas, and just as we do not stop thinking, languages will not stop growing in us.
Which texts -- whether they were complete texts or just excerpts -- and videos were especially meaningful for you during this series? What kind of impact did they have on you?
Decolonial Potential in a multilingual FYC by Dr. cruz medina It was particularly significant for me, I felt very identified when in several parts of the article examples of people feeling inferior for being new to a new language are given. I also very much identified when it is shown how bilinguals often feel ashamed for mixing languages, and confuse cultural growth with little interactive ability. It made me see and value more what I have learned.
Overall, what are you thinking about language and identity and the way language and identity are (or are not) intertwined? What did you find particularly challenging or interesting about this?
Language forms a large part of our identity. These are two factors that grow over the years at the same speed. What was most challenging for me was assimilating that speaking/thinking in different languages at the same time is not bad, and it doesn't show a lack of vocabulary either, it's just a different way of growing as a person.
Series THREE.1
Where do you think good and bad ideas come from?
I believe that the place of origin of certain types of ideas depends on the intention of the thinker, his mood, and where he wants to go with that idea. From there, you can determine if the idea is good or bad.
What would you say is the connection between questions and ideas? The connection between ideas and questions is the intention, the purpose of the idea, or the question.
Describe the last time you were really curious about something? The last time I was curious about something was when I was researching music production software. It was something new for me, and I was very interested in knowing the tools it contained and how I could use them to create my own project.
What motivated that curiosity (for that one thing)?
I was motivated by the fact that I really like music, and I was interested in building a project.
What did you do about it?
I started watching tutorials on how to use the program, and after a few weeks, I built my first project.
Series THREE.2
How did the Haller text help you think about sources differently than you had before?
After analyzing the text it gave me a better idea of how to structure a research, now I know the tools that I can use, and a little more about how to present them. Before I saw it as a complicated process and at the same time very empty. Just search websites and paraphrase. However, thanks to the metaphors that the author used throught the text, now I know how to better structure and choose my search tools.
Did you like the way she presented her book chapter as a conversation? Did that surprise you?
I'm not a big fan of texts that include a conversation. However, I have to admit that the way she presented it did surprise me, the author used the person with questions as a way of representing all of us who have doubts about a research.
What do you think is the most important thing to keep in mind as you begin integrating sources into your writing?
The most important thing is to take into account where we are getting this information from, and what we want to transmit through it.
Series THREE.3
What was your experience like while using secondary sources this week? It was difficult at first but as the week progressed, I started to get the hang of it.
What kind of expectations do you have for your upcoming investigative essay in regards to the use of sources? I think it will be difficult for me since im not familiarized, but with patience I hope I will be fine.
What do you think might be important as you progress in secondary source research (future projects) throughout your major? Know which sites are more reliable, and understand which things are acceptable to use and which ones not.
series Three.4
What are the most effective parts of revising and editing that you have learned so far? To analize if the message and the audience being targeted match with the writing.
How do you think you will apply such techniques (revising, redoing, rewriting, editing, etc.) in future projects throughout your major? I will for sure use those techniques. In my major biology, I will definetly use them in terms on checking if the definitions are right, or if I am using them in the right context.
What kind of impact has peer feedback and/or instructor feedback had on the progress of your work?
A great impact, it has given me a total different perspective of my work. It has also helped me analyze my targeted audience. Finally my peers have given me ideas to continue adding ideas to my work.
series Three.5
What was the overall effect of the feedback and/or instructor revisions you made to your draft? The feedback that my instructor gave me was pretty helpful. Now I have a more clear vision on what aspects my assignment is meting or not the expectations.
What are some characteristics about the feedback that helped you the most? The least? The ones that helped me the most were when the instructor told me that I had to emphasize more on my thesis. The feedback that helped me the least were the grammar corrections, they were something that I was gonna notice on further revision/drafts.
How was revision based on feedback from peers different from revision based on self-feedback?
The feedback that the peer gave me was effective, but obviusly not as formal and specific as the feedback from the instructor.
series Three.6
Purpose: My purpose is to show the relationship between the writer and the reader, and how the essay develops to meet the necesities of both.
Audience: My audience is for the people that are interested in analyzing the process of writing, and the "tricks" that it has that could help them in the future.
Form: I based the ideas on my based on the several articles that Mr. Camcho gave us. Like concept 4 and 3. Which give a strong idea on how a writer develops, and how it finds its own audience.
What do you think your ToW paper accomplish so far? Not much to be honest, I think the lack of a clear promt has caught me on a limbo. Ihope I can get more done in the future.
Explain who and what helped you What has helped me the most is the feedback from my professor. He has corrected me on the aspects that are not too clear on my paper.
Explain how potential new sources connect to and support the argument overall. I will try to use sources like the sponsors of literacy to support my argument, and that way show in a big manner how the writer and the reader are completly related, and how a writer needs to think on the reader in order for its work to funciton.
Explain what you have learned about engaging in inquiry, making rhetorical choices, doing research, and using sources By doing I good research, I have learned that you can add more ideas to support your essay without loosing track on the main idea. With a more careful and detailed research the sources become ten times more useful.
end of series THREE
What have you learned about the writing process so far this semester? I have learned that the writing process is a long process, that it takes a lot of revise and that have an opinion from others is always useful to construct a better piece of writing.
Did you find that your writing process is recursive just like Andrew Hollinger explains in "the creative process" video (intro to series THREE.2)? OR did you experience your writing process in a different way? Explain. I experienced the writing process just like Hollinger experienced it. However, I feel like I have a more clear point of view compared to myself before the semester, I now understand and appreciate the long process of writing.
Which texts and videos have been especially meaningful and/or helpful for you so far? What kind of impact did they have on you and your paper? The video of "I am alliterate" was very meaningful for me, I think it reflected perfectly how intead of feeling ashamed of our culture, we should embrace it, and use it to our own benefit.
Overall, what have you found particularly challenging or interesting? I found challenging to try to break the writing process into different parts. I am used to write an essay on 1 take, and then revise it. With the way Mr. Camacho assinged, it became challenging for me to retake the inspiration an ideas for the same topic on differnt times.
Series FOUR.1
Which audiovisual genres and/or editing techniques do you feel you appeal to you the most? Why? I think doing a lot of cuts, and not let any silence during the video is a great and an important technique.
What challenges do you think you will face for your audiovisual artifact? I think that the biggest challenge that I will have in my artifact is knowing when to stop. Happens to me even in music, I struggle to let my projects go, I always want them to be more and more perfect.
What are some ways audiovisual artifacts already impact your daily world? How so? (Exclude ALL social media angles) All good audiovisuals help your emotions change or adapt in different ways. If a good audiovisual is presented to a person, the purpose of the audiovisual will be completed when this person changes its mood, or decides to try something (do whatever the audiovisual inspires this person to do)
How do you see yourself creating, collaborating in, and participating in audiovisual artifacts of the future, and in what way or fashion? (Again, exclude ALL social media reflections.) I really wish my professors give me the opportunity to express myself in the way of videos in the future, I really like it. I think that it is a challenge that I always like to take.
series FOUR.2
From Peer-to-Peer (in-class ticket discussion)... Isolate two or three comments that you received (whether from peers via discussion, or from the instructor, or an outside reader, etc.) that you found particularly impactful and helpful to you.
Why are these comments effective? They are effective because they give you another perspective to the work. Highliting mistakes or certain topic that could transform in better sentences.
What about them, specifically, did you find very helpful? Yeah, I found out about some ideas that were not very clear for me, but after the feedback I now have a better route to follow.
How do you intend to apply them toward your final product? I will compare them to my current product, and try to apply the things that I was missing, and correct the things that could improve.
On your own, think about the following... What do ineffective comments teach you about the way you formulate comments for your peers?
Upon weighing and evaluating feedback received OVERALL THIS SEMESTER SO FAR, where do you go from here?
How are you taking the comments and applying them to your ToW, or LN, or artifact? I think it has become clear by the feedback given the relationship between the 3 assingments. I know have a more clear perspective of the similarities in the audience targeted.
What changes will you specifically be making in the next drafts of your ToW or LN or Artifact? I will modify them to match more the audience that I am targeting.
As a general overview of your feedback received, what have you learned about your own learning, creating, and composing process?
How do you know you've learned this? That is a long process, but the secret is not think about the process. Try to have patience in improving skills, and focusing on editing, reviewing and revising our work.
What comments that you received key into this new insight you have?
I received a comment that remarked that I should make myself clear in terms of what audience am I targeting, and once that is clear, is going to be easier to develop more words that add up to the topic and edit the ones that are already there.
