DSU is a unit made up of Dog Handlers. Dog Handlers are able to assist in a vast amount of situations, including chasing criminals and even performing area searches for a suspect. The dogs are a perk of being a member of the Emergency Response Patrol Team. The dog must be used to accompany the dog handler at all times, placing the dog in and out of the vehicle regularly.
When deciding to act as a dog handler for a shift, you should start by getting your dog in the vehicle at the station - you should not decide half way through a patrol to immediately become one, if you do, return to the station and “pick up” a dog. Getting your dog out half way through a patrol without a vehicle may be considered Fail RP. You will place the dog in your vehicle when going from incident to incident, you do not need to always use your dog on every scene however you MUST walk back to the vehicle to get the dog out, similar to the point above - do not just make it “appear” out of thin air.
Commands:
/k9 - Toggle the Dog Support Unit menu, with a wide range of functions
INSERT - After you have an active dog, this starts an attack
Use the “Place in vehicle” button on the menu and “Remove from vehicle” to remove them again.
We recognize there are situations and areas of London that your dog simply cannot go through, such as climbing over fences. There is a “Teleport dog” button for this occasion - this will simply teleport your dog to your current location.
When arriving on scene, you should always identify yourself as a dog handler (if you have a dog with you and wish to use it). The threat of a dog attack is often enough in most cases to deal with a non compliant suspect, as they are much faster than most humans and can cause both pain and injury if you are bitten by one.
It is your responsibility as a dog handler to use the dog effectively and in line with the National Decision Making Model - you are responsible for the dog. Any use of force should be justified and proportionate to the situation, in line with s76 Criminal Justice & Immigration Act 2008. The force must be reasonable in the circumstances.
DOG ATTACKS
Before sending the dog to attack a suspect, you must ask yourself the following questions:
Is it safe to instruct a dog to attack this suspect?
Is the suspect likely to make off in a vehicle or put the dog at risk?
These two questions are not inclusive, there should be a range of thoughts you consider before using the dog as a means of restraint or force tactic. Some situations are dangerous and completely unsafe to send a dog into, such as a suspect taking a hostage with a firearm or knife. On the other hand, you should consider whether it is necessary to use the dog? A suspect refusing to give you their details is not by any means reasonable grounds to attack them with a dog. We understand mistakes happen, but continued abuse of this will lead to removal from being a dog handler, we expect high standards of those undertaking this position.
DOG ATTACKS - INSTRUCTIONS
All dog attacks require you to select the suspect using a weapon. Either press INSERT or use the “Attack” button on the dog menu to begin an attack. You will receive an on-screen prompt asking you to aim at the suspect in question. The length of your aim depends on your current weapon, eg - a Taser X2 will have a limited scope and proximity compared to an assault rifle used by specialist trained firearms officers.
After aiming at the suspect, a visual rainbow of colours will appear around them, you will receive an on-screen prompt asking you to press ENTER. You can also press DELETE if you change your mind and wish to cancel the attack.
After pressing ENTER and confirming the suspect, the dog will bark for a few moments before running at a fast pace, engaging in the attack on the suspect. The dog will attempt to find the most direct route there, however if the suspect gets in a vehicle you should call the dog back - the dog will not be able to keep up or reach the suspect inside a vehicle.
Whilst the dog is running towards the suspect, you are able to press DELETE still at any time to cancel the attack, for example - the suspect may begin to comply and put their hands up. You should press this if the suspect begins to comply.
CARS
You can now drive any MARKED baller vehicle.
