BioMedical Applications

I am interested in the applications of discrete mathematical systems to solve problems in a variety of real-world bio-medical problems. These applications currently include the following.: (i) The study of biomolecular systems, such as the use of protein residue networks to study the structure of proteins, their interactions with drugs and other inhibitors, as well as the propagation of perturbations from inhibitors across the structure of proteins; (ii) The study of protein-protein interaction (PPI) and metabolic systems. In particular, the use of PPI networks to understand the transmission of effects from the perturbation of a protein to the rest of the system and the potential relation of these effects with diseases. One area of recent interest is in the applications of these models to virus-hosts interactions; (iii) The study of brain diseases, particularly Alzheimer using communicability theory and the geometric parameters derived from it to understand the damages produced by the disease in human brain.
