Godsmack is an American rock band founded in 1995 by singer Sully Erna and bassist Robbie Merrill. The band has released eight studio albums, one EP, two compilations, three video albums, and thirty-four singles. Erna and Merrill recruited local friend and guitarist Lee Richards and drummer Tommy Stewart to complete the band's lineup.[1] In 1996, Tony Rombola replaced Richards, as the band's guitarist.[2] In 1998, Godsmack released their self-titled debut album, a remastered version of the band's self-released debut, All Wound Up....[3] The album was distributed by Universal/Republic Records and shipped four million copies in the United States. In 2001, the band contributed the track "Why" to the Any Given Sunday soundtrack. After two years of touring, the band released Awake. Although the album was a commercial success, it failed to match the sales of Godsmack.[4] In 2002, Stewart left the band due to personal differences, and was replaced by Shannon Larkin.[5]

The band's third album, Faceless (2003), debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200.[4] In 2004, Godsmack released an acoustic-based EP titled The Other Side. The EP debuted at number five on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold by the RIAA.[6] The band contributed the track "Bring It On" to the Madden 2006 football game in 2005; this track is not featured on any known album or compilation. The band released its fourth studio album, IV, in 2006. IV was the band's second release to debut at number one, and has since been certified platinum.[4][6] After touring in support of IV for over a year, Godsmack released a greatest hits album called Good Times, Bad Times... Ten Years of Godsmack. The album included every Godsmack single (with the exception of "Bad Magick"), a cover of the Led Zeppelin song "Good Times Bad Times" and a DVD of the band's acoustic performance at the House of Blues in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Their fifth studio album, The Oracle, was released on May 4, 2010. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200,[4] making Godsmack one of the few bands with three consecutive albums that debuted at #1 on the chart, a feat that also has been accomplished by Van Halen, U2, Metallica, Dave Matthews Band, Staind, Disturbed, Linkin Park, Tool, and Slipknot.

The rockers' 1998 self-titled album is generally considered their debut, but there's a bit of a backstory behind it. The record was initially called All Wound Up, and was released in 1997 through an independent label called EK Records. However, once Godsmack signed their major label deal with Universal and Republic, it was remastered and reissued the following year, and the title was changed to the band's name. Landing at No. 22 on the Billboard 200, the album was a success, and earned the band a slot on Ozzfest.

Following their self-titled effort was 2000's Awake and 2003's Faceless, which was their first to go No. 1. IV came out in 2005, The Oracle five years later, 1000hp in 2014 and When Legends Rise in 2018. It's been nearly four years since the band has put a proper album out, but frontman Sully Erna apparently moved to Florida last year in order to work on new material, so hopefully we'll be hearing something fresh soon.

As usual, only studio albums count for the sake of the poll, so live records and EPs aren't mentioned. Head below to vote for your favorite Godsmack album, and tune into Loudwire Nights next Monday at 7PM ET to find out which record prevailed.

Not only is "IV" the first album Erna produced alone, it alsoshows more musical variety than the band's previous efforts. Thealbum has plenty of the heavy hard-rock/alt-metal riffs with anedge of blues that have made the band a multiplatinum success, butit also has songs like "Shine Down," which includes a bluesyharmonica, and "Hollow," which seems to take a little inspirationfrom the band's acoustic 2004 album, "The Other Side."

They took the songs to Dropbox's Lee Richards (the originalGodsmack guitarist) and Ugly Kid Joe singer Whitfield Crane andrecorded songs under the band name Another Animal. They hope torelease the debut album in 2007. While the music was originallywritten for Godsmack, without Erna's influences and signaturethroaty voice it sounds very different, the bassist said.

20 years since the release of their debut album and 20 million album sales later, GODSMACK are an even stronger animal than before. The proof is in the grooves of WHEN LEGENDS RISE, their first album in four years that's due out April 27 via BMG and marking their debut on the label. The album is available for pre-order now (here) with instant grat track, "Bulletproof."

WHEN LEGENDS RISE, the band's seventh studio album, was recorded at their headquarters (GSHQ) in Derry, New Hampshire and produced by Erik Ron and Sully Erna. Sonically intense and layered, it pushes the band forward and kicks off with the title track which begins with tribal-style drums and lethal riffs. "When Legends Rise" speaks to "the band and our journey," says Erna."It's been an amazing road we have traveled through all the ups and downs. But being able to conquer those challenging times with alcohol and egos and everything else that can tear a band apart is what we are the most proud of. To be able to stand strong again and do it better than we ever have. It's about burning it down and building it back up. It's the Phoenix rising from the ashes!"

Another album standout is the anthemic "Unforgettable" with its towering, massive sound and some special vocal guests. "It's my favorite song on the record," says Erna. "And thanks to an organization I work with called C.A.T.S. (Community Alliance for Teen Safety) that focuses on helping young kids stay on the right path, I invited a bunch of kids from the DERRY Middle Schools of New Hampshire to sing with me which I feel really brought this song over the top! They were incredible, and the song is Unforgettable!!"

Chicago native Sarantos is spreading some holiday cheer with the release of his new single 'The Time (For Miracles). The song is part of his album, 'Somethin' to Believe In,' which was released the same day. The album features 3 Top 10 UK iTunes hit singles, and 2 additional Top 40s. Tracks featured on the collection have been streamed more than 300K times.

Nigerian gospel singer Victor Thompson releases his debut album 'Blessed,' blending gospel and afrobeat influences to spread messages of faith and gratitude. The album features breakout single 'THIS YEAR (Blessings)' with over 170 million streams and reached #1 on Billboard's US Hot Gospel Songs chart.

In 2023, the Massachusetts-bred quartet will take a victory lap with their eighth studio album Lighting Up the Sky, dropping one more classic album as they ascend into the celebratory portion of their career. The powerful storytelling of Lighting Up the Sky covers boy-meets-girl, obstacles in relationships, the polarized political climate and the state of the world, betrayal, connection, rebounds, and more. be457b7860
