Dan and Erin Honken started gardening together in 2005. Mostly vegetables in the early years, slowly adding in cut flowers. Construction of the greenhouse in 2017 allowed them to scale up the business and begin offering CSA flower shares.
Erin's Acre is located in southern Minnesota and operates in conjunction with Honken Farms, a beef cattle producer and conventional farm.
In February of 2020, Erin completed the University of Minnesota's Master Gardener Core Course. Also in 2020, the farm added "Agri-tourism" elements by offering U-Pick, tours and garden party events.
In 2021 Dan & Erin were recognized by Rice County as their Outstanding Conservationists of the Year. The award celebrated their sustainable farming practices, concentration on soil health, protection of waterways from contamination and efforts to grow native prairie plants that attract and sustain pollinators.
Dan and Erin continue to make improvements and expand their ever-growing flower farm. Recently adding more space for gatherings and events.
