The third highest tax burden in the nation, $50,700 per taxpayer (per truthinaccounting.org Financial State of States 2020)
The third highest outmigration numbers, previously forth for four consecutive years. (per United Van Lines study 2020)
Businesses and jobs departing the state at an alarming rate.
Do you want to continue our 32-year decline? Or do you want to finally turn things around?
Most people I encounter these days tell me they are looking to leave Connecticut within weeks, months, or as soon as it is feasible for them to do so. They list several reasons for wanting to leave which include: the state taxes imposed on pensions and social security payments; concerns over public safety; flat out disdain for how the state is run; legislation that passes despite public disapproval. Few people mention wanting to stay. This is alarming to me.
Many businesses are also seeking to leave Connecticut. One of the reasons the cite for relocating out of Connecticut is the talent pool is not available in our state. To retain our existing businesses while at the same time encouraging new businesses to grow with us, we need to address education. Today’s students are tomorrows employers, management, and employees. School choice should be available for maximum educational benefit to every student. Public schools, private schools, trade schools and charter schools are different options. If the desired result is truly a better education for our children, none of these options should be opposed.
If elected, I promise to make sure all the voices of Danbury residents are heard and reflected in legislation. I will dedicate myself to not focusing on one “quick fix”, but to finding tangible and lasting solutions that are implemented in less time and at a lower cost. I will work to ensure Public Safety is thoroughly addressed so you feel safe on our streets, in our parks, and throughout our city. I will strive to do more for Danbury in two years than has been done in the last 30. I will fully expect you to hold me accountable for these promises.
In today’s politically charged climate a lot of emphasis is placed on identifying with a political party and not with principles. Many people feel obligated to vote based national issues. However, our issues are Connecticut based. Our problems begin with the long-established leadership and “business as usual” mindset prevalent in our state government. When you vote on Election Day or while you are completing your absentee ballot at home, remember you are not just voting for a name. You are voting on the difference between increased or decreased public safety. You are voting on whether attention is directed to teachers and students or towards teachers’ unions. You are making a choice between living in the past or moving forward towards a brighter future. You are making a decision between whether you will remain in Connecticut or need to leave Connecticut to maintain your everyday life. These are just a few issues on the ballot this year.
