Now, she is a research assistant for Prof. Erin Strumpf and a consultant at Charm Economics. Her research areas include the effects of cannabis policy and representation within Economics departments.

Laura Davis, PhD(c) in Epidemiology

Laura is a PhD candidate studying Epidemiology in McGill's department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Occupational Health, under the supervision of Prof. Erin Strumpf. Laura received her MSc from Queen's University and has worked as a research coordinator in cancer epidemiology using administrative databases to examine cancer outcomes. She is interested in social determinants of health, specifically the health of vulnerable populations and access to cancer treatment, consultation and primary care. She hopes to expand these interests and examine how social policies impact access to cancer care among vulnerable populations.

Julia Heron, MSc(c) in Epidemiology

Julia is a third-year medical resident in Public Health and Preventive Medicine at McGill.

She is completing a master’s in epidemiology as part of her residency training. Prior to pursuing her medical studies at McGill, she obtained a Bachelor of Laws from the Université de Montréal, which first ignited her passion for public policy. In the future, she hopes to use her public health practice to empower and improve the health of communities. Her research with Prof. Strumpf will focus on the social determinants of health related to melanoma incidence and diagnosis.

Raphaël Langevin, PhD(c) in Economics

Raphaël Langevin is a Ph.D. student in economics at McGill University.  Native of Quebec City, Raphaël graduated with a master’s degree in economics at Université Laval. He currently works as a research assistant at the Institut national d’excellence en santé et services sociaux (INESSS) and is also a researcher at the Institut de recherche et d’informations socio-économiques (IRIS), a non-profit independent research organization based in Montreal, Canada. His research interests are mainly focused on methodological developments related to the analysis of administrative databases with applications to public policy evaluation. More specifically, he is principally interested in the construction of estimators that could improve the incorporation of unobserved confounding variables in longitudinal administrative data analysis. Such developments have multiple applications concerning the modeling of healthcare expenditures and medical resources consumption over time.

Noah Merali, BA, is a junior researcher who joined Prof. Erin Strumpf’s team in 2022.  Noah assists Prof. Strumpf on the Prehospital Risk-Estimation During Initial Call-Taking (PREDICT) project where he researches cost analysis and program evaluation. Noah is interested in the economics of emergency healthcare, specifically the ways we can improve triage efficiency and effectiveness through new technology. Noah is also passionate about the experience of QTBIPOC in accessing healthcare and the ways we can better address the historic and ongoing mistreatment of minorities. Noah obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Classical Studies from McGill University in 2022.

Tiffanie Perrault, Ph. D in Economics, Postdoctoral Researcher

Tiffanie Perrault, PhD, joined Prof. Erin Strumpf’s team in 2022 as a postdoctoral researcher to work on the economics of cancer care. She investigates the effects of cancer on households’ labor outcomes and how these effects differ across socio-economic groups in Canada. Understanding how cancer affects families' labor supply and earnings can help assess its indirect costs and design informed health and welfare policies.

More broadly, her research applies — theoretical and empirical — Microeconomics and Industrial Organization to answer Public Economics and Health questions. Most of her other work focuses on the determinants of consumer preferences for cannabis and their implications with regards to legalization and market regulation.

Dr Perrault obtained her PhD in Economics from Université de Montréal and a MSc in Economics from the Toulouse School of Economics (France).

Samia Qureshi, PhD(c) in Epidemiology

Samia Qureshi is a PhD candidate in Epidemiology at McGill University. Under the supervision of Dr. Erin Strumpf, she is leading a thesis project that aims to identify components in Quebec’s healthcare system that demarcate quality and equity of care for colorectal cancer. Her interest in cancer research stems from her past epidemiological and clinical cancer research experiences. She has worked on projects evaluating the risk of ovarian cancer in relation to perineal talc exposure, the acceptability of self-sampling tools and social inequalities in cervical cancer screening in Montreal, and the impact of a colorectal cancer screening program in Ontario. She also holds expertise in pan-Canadian clinical trials on treatment of metastatic cancers (i.e. colorectal, lymphoma, and breast) through her prior research coordination work. Her previous employers include the Research Centre of the University of Montreal Hospital Centre (CRCHUM), Montreal’s regional public health department, the Quebec – Clinical Research Organization in Cancer (Q-CROC), and Merck & Co. Samia obtained an undergraduate honors degree paired with co-operative education in Biochemistry from Concordia University and a master’s degree in Public Health from McGill University.
