Excavations at Pitharka are planned for April-May 2026.
The goals of this season are:
· Continuing the excavation of Space 110. This is the largest room of the building uncovered so far, with evidence of building techniques associated with formal buildings (ashlar blocks) and of installations and artefacts related to olive oil production.
· Excavation of the area between Room 101 in the north, and the earlier rescue excavations. This will allow full understanding of the room, and connect the two sectors of the complex.
· Deeper excavation (to bedrock) of Space 113. Unexpectedly, this context has yielded about a dozen ceramic sherds dated to the Neolithic, suggesting an earlier period of activity at the site. Deeper excavations in this area will help reveal the long history of Erimi-Pitharka and the Kouris Valley.
