Erik Schmidt is originally from New Jersey, and holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Georgia. He started his writing career freelancing for several newspapers including the Austin-American Statesman, Des Moines Register, Athens Banner-Herald, and Ocean County Observer. Schmidt then worked as a sports editor for The Oconee Enterprise in Watkinsville, Ga. During two stints with that paper, he won numerous Georgia Press Association awards and assisted in the launching of a quarterly magazine. Schmidt was one of ten contributing authors to a self-published short story compilation titled Cover Stories: A Euphictional Anthology in 2010, and more recently assisted in editing Black Financial Culture by Dr. Michael Thomas. He recently released his first novel, Dogging POTUS.
Schmidt lives with his very supportive and loving wife Jen, and their two dogs, Captain Jack and Jersey Girl.
