Before I started doing lighting design in theatre, I began my journey into theater as House Crew and Running Crew. During my experience as a running crew member in SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical, I gained many great friends whose friendships I cherish. Hearing the cheers from the crowd and their enjoyment of the musical, I knew that the hard work the company and I put into the show was being recognized and enjoyed. The experience inspired me to further explore technical theater. My passion was further fueled when I got the opportunity to learn how to design lighting for Ride the Cyclone, a summer production. I had the honor of winning second place for lighting design for the show at the Role About Theater Festival.
Looking ahead into the future, I want to work as a lighting designer in musicals. As stories within musicals are interpreted through songs, I would like the lighting that I design to be able to tell and or enhance the story. Using lighting to tell a story and becoming the best at doing it is what I want to be able to do in the future. I want people to look at the lighting I create and be able to correctly interpret the story that it tells. If I am able to move the audience emotionally then I will recognize that I have done my job properly and have achieved my goal for the future.Â
