Evan Milletary and Olivia Kosko
Evan Milletary I am a junior Communications major at Mercyhurst, and am looking into getting into digital media of some kind, such as videography for some sort of company, which might involve social media, web, and other design. I grew up in Pittsburgh in the Shadyside neighborhood, which is one of 90 neighborhoods just in the city limits alone. I love living in my hometown and in this blog I will be showing you why.
Pittsburgh is the largest city in Western PA. It is home to the Steelers football team, perogies and Primantis, turn of the century industrialists like Andrew Carnegie and George Westinghouse, and more. Locals often call the city "The 'Burgh." I love the city because there's lots to do. There's lots of places to eat, there's many large and beautiful parks, and there are two major amusement parks, Kennywood if you love roller coasters and rides and Sandcastle if you love water rides. We have nationally-known sports teams and some of the nicest stadiums in the country. There's also a zoo, an aviary, a botanical garden, and more, which are great places to spend time at.
The city is rich in history and some of the history is not just locally important, but important throughout the entire U.S. Our city is a town of hills and bridges, with three major rivers running through it. The University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University, two big and well-known institutions, call Pittsburgh home, and we have world-class medial and research facilities.
I'm proud that Pittsburgh is my hometown and in my posts I will be talking about why I am proud of this and will show the various things that Pittsburgh has and various things to do.
Olivia Kosko I am a senior at Mercyhurst Prep and am currently part of the dual-enrollment program at Mercyhurst University. I'm looking to go into advertising or marketing in the future. I have lived in Erie my entire life and have grown up in all different parts of the county. I have enjoyed many things that Erie has to offer, including going to watch the Erie Philharmonic perform and going to a local Seawolves game. Erie has had an important role in the War of 1812 as well as many elections. Erie does not even come close in size to cities in Pennsylvania such as Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, but we have always compared in other ways.
I have always been happy to call Erie my home and to tell people that I have grown up here my entire life. Although we sometimes get some hate thrown at us, we are an extremely interesting town. We have so many possibilities for people of all ages with all interests year-round. There is always something to do around town even in the most unexpected places.
As stated earlier, I have lived in Erie my entire life, but I grew up mostly in the North East area of the county. North East is most popular for growing grapes and producing wine from local vineyards. The best way to describe North East to someone is to tell them to imagine a storybook small town, and you would have a good idea of what North East looks and feels like.
Overall, Erie is an amazing place to live in and visit. I can never get tired of talking about how great of a town it is and I am excited to share the places that I have loved all of my life!
