My name is Eric Overton (He/Him), and I am a San Diego native, having grown up in the Grossmont Unified School District. The ecologically diverse San Diego county and surrounding area cultivated my environmental enthusiasm. What fills my cup is gardening and hiking with my corgi, Louie.
I learned that I loved teaching while I was working at Clairemont high school as a special education assistant, where I first experienced what it was like to be "that person" for a student. You can hear more about that on my Why Teach page.
The joy and excitement I experience helping students engage and make sense of STEM is my cherished life purpose. I was slow to realize but itbecame obvious once I started. See what I have accomplished in the classroom by going to my Teaching Artifacts page. One of my favorite things about teaching is sharing what I am passionate about and learning what my student's interests are.
I spent the 2021-2022 school year at Castle Park Senior High School as a STEM resident teaching chemistry. What an exciting and fulfilling challenge it was to welcome students back from covid-19 online learning during my student teaching.
I graduated from the University of California San Diego with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Chemistry and a Master's in Education, as well as my single subject credential in Chemistry with EL authorization.
