I am a Mathematics Ph.D. Candidate at the University of Kentucky, where I also received my Master's degree. I received my Bachelor's degree in Mathematics with minors in Applied Statistics and Computer Science from Valparaiso University. While at Valpo, I took the opportunity to study abroad with the Budapest Semesters in Mathematics program, and I can't wait to return!
As a graduate student, my research interests are wide and varied, largely shaped by what I have been exposed to so far. My current work is with tropical linear series and other tropical notions of objects in algebraic geometry. In the past, I have enjoyed projects in graph theory, knot theory, and data science. If I hear about an interesting problem, puzzle, or game I am always excited to discuss it!
I am also passionate about helping others along in their mathematical journeys. As a first-generation college student, I was heavily impacted by professors who encouraged me to take part in research projects, both during the semester and the summer. I seek to help undergraduate students in their own projects, and have done so through the Math Lab at the University of Kentucky, with hopes of eventually leading an REU program. I have also acted as a graduate student peer mentor at the University of Kentucky.
Outside of mathematics...
Above all of my interests and goals in life is my desire to follow Christ. I am a sinner saved by grace through faith. At the University of Kentucky I am very involved in the Mathematics Graduate Student Bible Study, Grad Cru, and Faculty Commons. This is something I am always willing to discuss more about.
In 2024, I married my beautiful wife, Robyn, who I met at Valpo. Together we attend St. John's Lutheran Church, read books, enjoy board games, go disc golfing, hike, and play tennis. Other than that, I love taking opportunities to spend time with my family. I have one brother, five sisters, four brothers-in-law, and ten nieces and nephews! When I visit them I never have a moment of rest, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
