Erdal Yalcin is Professor of International Economics at the University of Applied Sciences Konstanz (HTWG). Previously, he was the deputy director of the ifo Center for International Economics, ifo Institute, in Munich. He holds a doctoral degree in economics from Tübingen University for his thesis on the role of uncertainty in export and foreign direct investment decisions. Amongst others, he analyzed the potential long-term welfare effects of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) and the economic consequences of a deepened customs union between the EU and Turkey. His current research topics include the impact of an EU-Mercosur trade accord on the German economy, the consequences of US protectionism, and the EU Commission’s proposal for a new anti-dumping methodology. A major share of his policy and academic work deals with the question how international trade and trade finance interact in light of uncertainty. He has published numerous articles and policy reports in the field of international economics. He is regular consultant to various European institutions and ministries. He is a research fellow of the Kiel Institute for the World Economy and the CESifo network in Munich.
