Project Summary
The project "We want a better future!" has tried to analyze and be aware of the way in which we can influence our future in a positive way, with the main objective of achieving positive and lasting benefits for the participants.
To this end, work has been done on understanding and better reacting to social, ethnic, linguistic and cultural diversity and the assumption of cultural diversity as a better understanding and respect for human rights and democracy, promoting tolerance and respect for other peoples and cultures. Knowing each other has allowed us to achieve a better understanding and recognition of skills and qualifications in Europe and beyond. In addition, the meetings of people have reinforced the motivation of the participants to learn the languages of each country and English as a world language, so this project has had a positive impact on a more active participation in society. This project has allowed us to have a more positive attitude towards the common European project and EU values.
The project has covered four themes which included family life, traditional dance and music, traditional foods and traditional handcrafts. Additionally, social aspects of the different countries have been worked on, such as socially relevant figures for their contributions to science, music and the arts, different environmental problems and their solutions, as well as the students' vision of the school of the future.
These themes have allowed us to incorporate project objectives into the curricula, in order to encourage didactic approaches, innovative strategies, creativity and peer collaboration through modern technological communication. In addition, we have used our personal and virtual meetings to make and present presentations with the different visions of the issues raised. Among the 5 schools from 5 countries that finally developed the project, we have tried to create a sense of European citizenship based on understanding and respect for other people and their culture.
The innovation of the project has been based on encompassing school communities understood as a comprehensive system that has involved students, teachers and families in all the activities carried out as well as its social dissemination with which we have been able to reach the general public. We have tried and managed to spread the continuous development of the project through the Internet (on our website, social networks, etc.), live connections between the different countries (in virtual meetings during the pandemic) and local press.
The project has finally involved more than 200 students and companions in 6 mobilities to Spain, Poland, Italy, Turkey, Romania and Spain, in addition to two virtual meetings during the COVID-19 period, and has lasted 3 years.
The results we have obtained in the development of the project are detailed below:
* 6 short student exchanges, in which students have developed their communication and social skills, have improved their collaboration skills, problem solving, teamwork, critical thinking and learning from different cultures and countries.
* 2 virtual meetings in which various environmental problems have been analyzed as well as their solutions, which has allowed them to be made aware of these situations in the future.
* The students have shared with their colleagues their experience of returning to school.
* Personal relationships have been maintained between students from different countries once the meeting is over.
* The culture, music, dances and traditional costumes have been known, as well as typical foods and craft products from different countries. An e-book has been prepared with the recipes of typical dishes.
In short, the benefits of the project are very valuable and lasting because our project wanted to have the social and educational value of Europe's cultural heritage, its contribution to job creation, economic growth and social cohesion, and it is the basis for it. The personal development of both students and teachers, diverse from a cultural point of view, helps to improve respect for different religions, beliefs, skin color, the integration of minorities and the inclusion of immigrants in our societies. We are all different, but at the same time we all have the same emotions, internal drives, we are all human beings. Through this project we wanted to show that,
despite the differences that exist in Europe, all together we contribute to the creation of a new European culture. The project has contributed to the development of several personal and professional areas for the participants and their environment: organizational, linguistic, leadership and ICT skills in particular.
