The Prahova Valley, the Bucegi Mountains and the Postăvaru Massif

The Prahova Valley is one of the best-known mountain areas in Romania. It follows the course of the Prahova River and forms an important natural corridor between the south of the country and Transylvania. Along this valley there are mountain resorts such as Sinaia, Bușteni, Azuga and Predeal.

Sinaia is directly connected with the Bucegi Mountains. These are high and spectacular mountains, with steep cliffs, forests, alpine meadows and well-known natural rock formations, such as Babele and the Sphinx. The highest peak of the Bucegi Mountains is Omu Peak, which reaches 2,505 metres. Peleș Castle is located at the foot of the Bucegi Mountains, in a mountain landscape that contributed to the choice of Sinaia as a royal summer residence.

Towards Brașov, the landscape opens up towards the Brașov Depression and the Postăvaru Massif. This mountain massif dominates the Brașov area and is connected with Poiana Brașov, one of the best-known mountain resorts in Romania. Postăvaru Peak, also known as Cristianul Mare Peak, is about 1,799 metres high.
