INFORMACIÓN SOBRE ALOJAMIENTO:
At the moment, it is very challenging to find student housing in Leuven as there are more students looking for housing than there are rooms available.
We strongly recommend to secure accommodation before you arrive in Leuven.
You can find general info on housing in Leuven here. Please keep an eye on this website for updates.
Below you will find the housing possibilities for students at KU Leuven campus Leuven. If you will study at another campus, we suggest you contact Student Services on your campus directly.
The majority of student accommodation is privately owned. Only 20% of the total housing offer is available in university residence halls.
Student accommodation in a residence hall (= 20% of the housing market)
At the moment all KU Leuven residence halls are fully booked.
With the exception of KU Leuven Stuvo residence halls (more information below), rooms within the other residence halls will show on the KU Leuven database www.kotwijs when they become available. Don’t forget to select the type of accommodation (KU Leuven Residence and/or Residence in cooperation with KU Leuven) and your preferred rental term.
Student accommodation on the private market (= 80% of the housing market)
We recommend looking for housing via https://www.kotwijs.be/, the online KU Leuven housing database. At the moment, unfortunately, the offer on this database is very limited.
Why look for housing via Kotwijs?
All student accommodations published on Kotwijs meet our minimum requirements concerning housing quality, fire safety, student friendliness, and rental contract (‘huurovereenkomst’ in Dutch).
Only landlords with whom we cooperate can publish their offer on Kotwijs.
Kotwijs also allows you to specify your personal preferences such as price limit, rental period, comfort level, etc.
Some international students also consult real estate agencies, commercial websites and social media platforms. If you find housing via one of these channels, please check for the KU Leuven Kotlabel and/or with KU Leuven Housing Service first to see whether we cooperate with the landlord and avoid internet fraud.
In order to improve our service and support during your search for suitable accommodation, KU Leuven would like to know how many students are still looking for a place to live. You can help us get a clear view of the current situation by registering through our website. Available rooms within the KU Leuven Stuvo residence halls will be allocated based on this list. Please note that the expected availability will be very limited. Therefore chances are low that our service will be able to allocate you.
Last but not least, we advise you to keep the following in mind:
The rental contract you'll sign will be in Dutch. However, it is essential that you understand the contract before signing it. You can turn to our service for a translation or for more information about your rental contract. You can find more information on our website as well. The KU Leuven Housing Service also provides model contracts in Dutch, along with English translations.
Leuven is a tiny city (2 km across) with easy access to public transport and a user-friendly bike renting service (www.velo.be). Therefore, we recommend not focusing on the location too much.
The average rent for a single room is between €340-€550 per month, including utilities. A room with private facilities (a private bathroom OR a private shower) is around € 500-€650 per month. The average rent for a studio for one person is about € 500-€750.
If you require temporary housing for a couple of days upon arrival, you need to arrange it yourself well in advance! You can find more information on this webpage.
Our offices are open from Monday to Friday from 1:30 to 4:30 pm, except on Tuesdays (only during the month of September we are also open on Tuesdays) and public holidays. You don't have to make an appointment. However, if you have a question that requires more time, we recommend you do make an appointment.
To manage expectations, please note that we only provide information and advice. We do not search a room for you. You can register on the list for KU Leuven Stuvo residence halls, however, the expected availability will be limited.
INFORMACIÓN SOBRE EL TIPO DE DOCENCIA PARA EL 2º SEMESTRE, Y LOS EXÁMENES DE DICIEMBRE 2020:
For the second semester I would like to share some fragments of our Rector’s communication that sheds some light on the plans for the second semester. In short we will continue with current system for the first four weeks of the second semester. The situation will be closely monitored:
… For at least the first four weeks of the second semester, we will continue with the system we have now: code red. There will be teaching activities on campus, but we will have a low occupancy rate. All study programmes will be able to organise practicals, lab exercises, and skills training on campus. Other training sessions, seminars, or interactive teaching that cannot be organised online without significant learning loss or without lowering the bar in terms of learning objectives can take place on campus as well.
Classes will be offered online, but Faculties have some room to make exceptions. For a selection of courses – those that typically have somewhat lower pass rates, for instance – the Faculties can organise a specific number of interactive classes campus, always with a 1:5 occupancy rate (maximum) and with adherence to all corona measures. ….
Transitions
Transitioning requires time, energy and effort. We are therefore limiting the number of transitions in the second semester to two.
We’re dividing the semester into three sections: the first four weeks (8 February until 5 March), the next four weeks until the Easter holidays (8 March until 2 April) and the five weeks after the Easter holidays (19 April until 21 May). Each section of four or five weeks will see the same pandemic level. We will announce any possible transition well in advance.
If the situation evolves favourably, we may be able to introduce a gradual relaxation. This will be possible if a more normal social life can be resumed in a disciplined way and if the vaccination programme is carried out as planned and desired. One possible scenario is that we organise the first four weeks in code red, transition to code orange for the following four weeks, and then have a code yellow with a significantly higher occupancy rate after the Easter holidays….

Opinión de estudiantes de años anteriores
Alojamiento.
