Support Our Work
Your donation helps us provide equine-assisted wellness experiences while caring for our beloved horses, dogs, and other animal partners. Thank you for supporting this work.
Equine Energy is a peaceful sanctuary where rescued horses, therapy dogs, and meaningful connection come together to help humans and animals heal. We serve veterans, trauma survivors, and people with disabilities through heart-centered equine-assisted experiences that restore joy, trust, and resilience.
What We Do
At Equine Energy, we provide relationship-based, equine-assisted wellness experiences for veterans, children, and adults seeking connection, confidence, and emotional well-being.
We focus on:
Groundwork and gentle horse interaction
Observational connection with therapy dogs and rescued horses
Nature walks, grooming, and horse-led mindfulness sessions
These experiences offer opportunities to build trust, find calm, and experience joy-always guided by our team and supported by our gentle herd.
At Equine Energy, we welcome veterans, children, adults, caregivers, and people navigating stress, isolation, trauma, or major life transitions. Our peaceful, horse-centered experiences offer opportunities for connection, confidence, and meaningful time with horses and nature.
We also provide a safe haven for rescued equines and gentle dogs who become valued partners in our work. Every experience is designed with the well-being of both the people and animals at its heart.
We are located in Kitsap County and proudly serve Bainbridge Island, Kingston, Poulsbo, Hansville, Silverdale, Bremerton, and surrounding Western Washington communities.
Lucky came to Equine Energy from Versailles, Kentucky. When his owner's dementia made it impossible to continue caring for the horses, the family made the difficult decision to rehome Lucky (Late Nite's What An Impact registered name) and his stable mates.
During the rehoming process, the stable helping with his placement didn't know what he had been called before. Wanting him to have a special name for his new chapter, we asked our social media friends for suggestions.
We loved all the ideas, but after spending time with him, he simply became Lucky.
Around the sanctuary, we sometimes call him Sir Lucky, the Southern gentleman from Versailles, and we're grateful he found his way to Equine Energy.
Today, Lucky enjoys quiet days, gentle companionship, and a peaceful retirement at Equine Energy Sanctuary & Nonprofit.
Trauma and isolation can create invisible walls that are hard to break through with traditional approaches alone. Equine Energy offers a deeply restorative alternative—one where healing unfolds through connection, movement, and shared presence with horses and the land.
This work matters because it changes lives. We’ve witnessed nonverbal children speak, veterans release chronic anxiety, and rescue horses regain purpose and joy. These moments remind us that healing isn’t always clinical—it’s often relational, soulful, and profoundly real.
Equine Energy is currently exploring the development of a modest community wellness and support space in Kitsap County.
Our vision is to create a calm, accessible gathering place for equine-assisted wellness sessions, support meetings, educational workshops, quiet reflection, and restorative connection with animals and nature.
Future plans may include accessible restrooms, a small meeting space, wellness programming areas, and improved access and comfort for the people and animals we serve.
As a grassroots nonprofit, we are pursuing this vision thoughtfully and step-by-step through community partnerships, grants, and local support.
Equine Energy serves individuals and families throughout Kitsap County, including veterans, children, caregivers, and people navigating stress, isolation, trauma, or major life transitions.
Our work focuses on creating calm, connection, confidence, and emotional regulation through restorative interaction with horses, animals, movement and nature.
As we continue to grow, our goal is to expand access to safe, supportive wellness experiences for the wider community.
Each of our horses has a story—and a path that brought them here. Some came to us through rescue or rehoming, while others simply needed a safe place to land. Today, they are valued teachers, companions, and healers.
They mirror emotions with gentleness and invite trust without judgment. Whether it's a nuzzle from a curious mare or the steady gaze of a seasoned gelding, their presence grounds our clients in the moment and creates space for connection.
Our herd is lovingly supported by our Bernese Mountain Dogs, who provide calming energy and joyful companionship.
We believe healing happens through connection—not correction. At Equine Energy, we don’t diagnose or direct—we invite. Our sessions are quiet, grounded, and client-led, allowing individuals to move at their own pace, guided by the intuition of horses and the wisdom of nature.
We combine principles of trauma-informed care, somatic awareness, and the principles of positive intention to create experiences that restore confidence, calm the nervous system, and spark joy. Our team listens with compassion and responds with presence—human, hoofed, and pawed.
Equine Energy was co-founded by Dr. Christina Sunday Wagner and her sister, Laura Hammerlund—two lifelong horsewomen with a shared passion for healing. Christina is a retired doctor of chiropractic and acupuncture, and Laura is the widow of a U.S. Navy veteran and a former attorney. Together, they bring decades of lived experience and professional care to this work.
Our team also includes beloved volunteers, a small herd of therapy horses, and our gentle Bernese Mountain Dogs, who all play a vital role in creating a space of safety, joy, and unconditional support.
Our therapy dogs, often Bernese Mountain Dogs, enhance the sessions by offering grounding, comfort, and emotional companionship.
Our approach blends trauma-informed care, universal principles, and the natural rhythm of the herd to support connection, confidence, and emotional well-being.
After Sunday is a heartfelt romance about Dr. Elle Sawyer and a love that helps mend old wounds. Set against the healing world of horses, it's a story of second chance, courage, and choosing joy. All proceeds from the book support the care of the animals at Equine Energy.
