Reframing Caribbean Perspectives Through Contemporary Theories
Akilah Lamsee is currently an Instructor with the Caribbean Civilisation Unit at The University of the West Indies where she functions as part of a regional team. She is a PhD candidate in Cultural Studies at The University of West Indies, St. Augustine Campus. Her research interests include Oral Culture, Test Anxiety and Rastafari within the contemporary Caribbean context.
Asha Lovelace is a filmmaker engaged in the advancement of Caribbean cinema. She founded Africa Film Trinidad and Tobago to strengthen Caribbean film through engagement with the African continent and launched the Caribbean Film Festival, dedicated to the exhibition and global positioning of Caribbean film. She continues to write and adapt stories grounded in Caribbean life and literature.
Chelsea Dana Sinanan holds academic qualifications in Leadership & Management, Sociology and is currently reading for a PhD in Cultural Studies. Her research interests include Caribbean Culture, Trinidadian Carnival, Visual Arts and Garment Construction. Her published works can be found in the Stan Rzeczy journal and the West Indiana Thesis Collection at The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine.
Interdisciplinary performing artist, scholar, bois woman, martial artist, and educator, Jamie J. Philbert bridges theory, ritual, ancestral technologies, archive and what refuses to be archived. Her principle focus, the sacred martial tradition of Kalinda is a testament to her way of life and mentorship received by numerous Kalinda elders. She currently pursues a PhD in Cultural Studies.
Artist, Curator and Art-Educator, Michelle Boyd creates abstract expressionist art utilizing organic pigments and materials. Inspired by the natural world, Michelle seeks to create a reflective space for connection, that examines identity, memory and nature. As a PhD researcher, Michelle's new collection explores spacio cultural practices, material culture, identity and making.
Patti-Anne Ali has been creating for page, stage and screen, as an actor, director, writer and producer for over three decades. She is currently pursuing an MPhil in Cultural Studies at the University of the West Indies, UWI where she is also an Adjunct Lecturer in the Theatre department at the DCFA, UWI.
