Kagosi Mwamulowe is a distinguished Zambian heritage specialist with over three decades of expertise in heritage conservation and management as well as environmental and natural resources management. He is currently Acting as Executive Director for Zambia’s National Heritage Conservation Commission and substantively the Director of Conservation Services. With a career spanning Africa, he's a prominent figure on the World Heritage Committee, holding an MSc in Earth Sciences from the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom and a BSc in Geography and Earth Sciences. Mwamulowe's interests include Heritage Impact Assessments, Environmental Impact Assessments and research on African Liberation and Slave Routes.
As President of International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) Zambia, he's influential in both natural and cultural heritage conservation. Mwamulowe excels in Disaster Risk Management, World Heritage Nominations, GIS Mapping and Integrated Water Resource Management. He engages globally with UNESCO, African World Heritage Fund (AWHF), School of African Heritage (EPA), International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) offering advisory and consultancy services. He has contributed much towards capacity building and mentorship of African World Heritage Site Managers and Masters and PhD heritage students.
With exceptional managerial and communication skills, Mwamulowe plays a pivotal role in shaping heritage conservation worldwide. He is a Nature Expert representing the State Party of Zambia which is the Vice Chair on the UNESCO World Heritage Bureau as well as the Chair of Africa Group 5a on the implementation of the World Heritage Convention.
