Italian-American composer, producer and clarinettist Giacomo Smith is known for his work as the founder of influential UK band Kansas Smitty's. His work honing Smitty's sound over across five acclaimed studio albums and a decades touring across the EU and US has led to production work for Jamie Cullum, rising star Jas Kayser and the debut album from actor Damian Lewis alongside performing regularly as a featured soloist with Gregory Porter the Southbank Sinfonia and other international orchestras. His writing, production and collaborations have garnered 10m + streams and counting.
After getting undergrad at Boston and a Masters at McGill Giacomo left the states to set up in London. He frequently goes back home to perform, notably in 2019 at Wynton Marsalis' request to play with the Jazz At The Lincoln Center Orchestra.
More recently in 2022 he has a concerto written for him by composer and conductor Guy Barker performed as part of the EFG Jazz Festival with the Southbank Sinfonia.
His fascination with Django’s Reinhardt's unique swing style has led to appearances as a featured guest across Europe and in the U.S. and a growing following in France.
"Trav'lin Light" is a brand new project from Giacomo which sets out to explore the under travelled land of "folk-jazz", a term coined by one of his inspirations, clarinetist, Jimmy Giuffre.
This concept was born on one of the hottest nights of the year in one of the hottest basements in London, Kansas Smitty’s, a venue founded and co-owned by Giacomo. It was one of the featured performances for one of their celebrated and award winning lockdown series KSTV and now it is brought to life in the flesh with Giacomo joined by Alex 'Honey' Boulton on guitar and Will Sach on bass.

Saxophonist Fraser Smith has played across the world and is a regular in some of London’s leading clubs. He has brought his own band to Ronnie Scott’s on numerous occasions and is now signed to the esteemed UK jazz label Ubuntu Music, with whom he released his album in April this year. A working musician, Fraser has cut his teeth and paid his dues on the London scene over the last decade and a half.
"TipTop!" is 'straight ahead', hard-bop inspired originals and features some of the best on the scene; Steve Brown on drums, Rob Barron on keys and Simon Read on bass. Leading critic John Fordham of the Guardian described Fraser as 'Nonchalantly confident and very hard swinging'. The Track Wardell dedicated to master saxman Wardell Gray was featured as Jazz FM's 'Track of the Week' and the video of tune 'Might Not' has featured as Jazzwise's 'Video of the Day'.
With a focus on swing and the straight-ahead, Fraser channels the sound and language of the big Tenor men. His music harkens back to the Golden ages of jazz, from 40s Kansas City through to 60s New York.
Born in Birmingham, raised between the Midlands and Wales, Fraser first picked up the sax at the age of 15. He first came to the music of Charlie Parker, Louis Armstrong and Ike Quebec through the Woolworth's bargain bucket. After studying hundreds of solos, he considers himself a 'practical scholar', bringing these sounds of a bygone era to a modern stage. Smith appears almost nightly on the London scene, playing approximately 200+ gigs a year, mostly in the capital but as far abroad as China, Mexico, Bahrain and many other destinations.

Fraser Smith: "A real treat to play for such a nice crowd at Epsom Jazz last night. The audience were there in numbers and ready to listen, I wish all the clubs were like this. So much effort gone in from Richard and the team to make this a great night out and authentic jazz experience for everyone in the room."
Internationally renowned for their masterful performances in a variety of musical styles, Cuban Jazz violinist Omar Puente and Italian pianist and composer Ilario Ferrari present “Mediterranean meets Cuba”.
They will be taking you on a journey from Cuba, the shores of south Italy and back, exploring the common ground and new possibilities that come from the encounter of the Afro-Cuban Jazz tradition and the Mediterranean Culture.
Omar's career is nothing short but extraordinary, from being first violin of the Cuban national symphonic orchestra to touring around the world with musicians like Courtney Pine and Denys Baptiste, Omar is a "true violin great" as Nigel Kennedy has stated.
Omar is extensively touring in the UK, recently playing as headliner of a number of sold out shows in renown venues like the Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club. His trademark is incorporating contemporary Jazz into his traditional Cuban heritage.
"A gentle showman" as defined by the Watford Fringe blog, Ilario is an internationally acclaimed Italian born Pianist, Singer and Composer.
During recent years Ilario has been collaborating as composer and pianist with a large number of ensembles (Omar Puente Quintet, Letchworth Sinfonia, the NYJO, BBC Strings, Ondanueve String Quartet, London Gay Big Band to name a few).
In 2021 he founded his Jazz Trio with Katie Patterson and Charlie Pyne, who are establishing themselves as one of the most distinguished trios in the UK Music scene. Their debut album “Childhood Memories” was defined as one of the best releases in 2021 by Jazzist Magazine. 2023 sees Ilario release “Be Yourself”, his third album as band leader, a work for piano and string quartet that combines Classical music, contemporary Jazz and Indian rhythms.
Ilario and Omar have performed as a duo in a number of sold out shows in London and are delighted to bring this to Epsom for the first time.

After many years working as a side-man in various bands, most notably with Allison Neale and Dave Newton, in 2017 Nat Steele launched his debut album, “Portrait of the Modern Jazz Quartet” on Trio Records. A sold-out album release concert was held at Ronnie Scott’s, followed by 2 years of touring the UK with the quartet. The album was awarded “Jazz Album of the Month” by BBC Music Magazine, with a plethora of positive reviews in the jazz press, including 4 stars in The Observer and Jazzwise Magazine. It even made it into the top 10 in the jazz charts in Japan. In 2019 he was invited by Grammy-award winning pianist, arranger and composer Alan Broadbent to give the world premiere of a new work written to celebrate the 25th anniversary of UK jazz club Watermill Jazz. In 2020 - just before the pandemic - he completed an 18-date Arts Council funded tour of the UK with the MJQ band featuring guest tenor saxophonist Grant Stewart, who came from New York for 2 weeks to play.
As well as working as a performer, Nat has been very actively involved in promoting jazz and founded a jazz festival, BopFest, in 2015 with saxophonist Allison Neale. The annual festival, initially just long weekend, has grown into a 7-day long extravaganza of bebop and straight-ahead jazz in London featuring some of the best musicians from the UK, Europe and America, with the festival attracting both private and Arts Council funding and getting significant audience numbers and press attention.
At his arrival on the scene, he quickly gained a reputation as a talented musician to watch out for, described by Clark Tracey as "one of the best vibes players this country has ever produced." Principally self-taught and following in the style of Milt Jackson, Nat takes a two-mallet approach to improvisation, focusing on melodic interpretation over chordal playing. His “Nat Steele Quartet” is regularly featured at the Late, Late show at Ronnie Scott's and as a result he has attracted compliments for his playing from the likes of Benny Green, Joe Locke, Jason Marsalis, Harold Mabern and Eric Alexander. He has studied with Mike LeDonne and had the good fortune to sit in with both Benny Green and Wynton Marsalis.

Andy Davies is an award-winning British trumpeter, writer and comedian leading his own band the Andy Davies Quartet, currently the resident band for over 15 years at the famous Ronnie Scott’s Wednesday night jam session.
Trumpeter extraordinaire and purveyor of witty asides, Andy adores the music from the hard bop and soul jazz era of the 50s and 60s particularly by the trumpet-led bands that recorded primarily for the premier New York based jazz record labels of Blue Note and Prestige.
He also regularly works in Film, TV, Radio & Comedy, and his voice can be heard introducing your favourite cartoons on Cartoon Network as well as presenting for BBC, MTV, Channel 5, ITV, C4 to name a few.
Making up this special trio with Andy will be award-winning 29-year-old jazz guitarist Rob Luft, and highly revered Italian-born double bassist Mikele Montolli.
Rob Luft's virtuosity has been compared to that of six-string legends John McLaughlin, Al Di Meola & Paco De Lucia. His debut album ‘Riser’ was released in 2017 to widespread critical acclaim, and was subsequently nominated for a string of awards in the 2018 Jazz FM & Parliamentary Jazz Awards and 2019 Jazz FM Awards. His eagerly-awaited second album “Life is the Dancer” was released in April 2020 and met with equally critical acclaim.
Mikele Montolli graduated in 2009 in Jazz Double Bass and joined the London Jazz scene the following year. Mikele has toured various Jazz and World music festivals all over Europe, New York, Detroit, Tokyo, Indonesia, Hong Kong and the Balkan Peninsula, building an extensive music vocabulary based on Afro American tradition fused with years of classical training and experimental form-free music.

Gabriel Latchin Trio
British pianist, composer and bandleader, Gabriel Latchin has made a name for himself as one of the UK’s finest musicians, praised by critics and world renowned musicians alike. Known for his effortlessly swinging feel, deep repertoire and compelling performances, Jazzwise recently described his playing as “impeccable... the clarity of his lines evoking something of Hank Jones or Tommy Flanagan”.
Recognised as a talented composer and arranger, Latchin’s writing is fresh and original, whilst reflecting his serious study of the jazz piano tradition. On I’ll Be Home for Christmas Latchin presents well-known songs through the eyes of his musical idols. For example, how might Bill Evans approach a Christmas song? What would Ahmad Jamal do with “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”?
An in-demand sideman across a range of projects, Latchin was personally invited by Christian McBride to perform with himself and Renée Fleming at Wigmore Hall. He is also the musical director for Claire Martin and Ray Gelato’s touring show, Let There Be Love. A regular performer at London’s premier jazz venues such as Ronnie Scott’s, Pizza Express Jazz Club and the 606, Latchin can often be heard with contemporaries, Atila, Nat Steele’s ‘Portrait of the MJQ’ and The Steve Fishwick Quartet. Jo Harrop
Born in Durham and raised on a heady musical diet of Nina Simone, Billie Holiday and Aretha Franklin, Jo Harrop cut her teeth as a session singer, working with a host of iconic artists including Neil Diamond, Rod Stewart, Gloria Gaynor and Enrique Iglesias.
After moving to London, she quickly established herself as one of the most unmistakable voices in British jazz, performing everywhere from the Royal Albert Hall to the Sunset Sunside Jazz Club in Paris.
Having signed to London-based jazz label, Lateralize Records, she recently received a raft of rapturous reviews for Weathering The Storm, her debut with guitarist, Jamie McCredie. Effortlessly blurring the lines between jazz and folk, it’s an achingly beautiful album that is so shot through with pathos and pain, it could melt the hardest of hearts. The Guardian dubbed it ‘a little gem of an album: simple, modest and perfect,’ whilst BBC 6 Music’s Iggy Pop fell in love with her voice, calling her “a very fine jazz singer”.
Warm, smoky and capable of the most delicate dynamics, Jo Harrop’s mellifluous voice reveals an intimacy few singers are capable of generation.
