The study site was just up Logan Canyon from Stokes Nature Center. Flow was relatively low as snowmelt had not yet begun in the headwater mountains.
The study reach was bordered by US 89 on river right and the Logan River Trail on river left. River right was dominated by willow while the river left bank was occupied by a large maple tree. The channel contained a high density of large emergent boulders which created high heterogenous flow patterns containing numerous shear zones and hydraulic jumps.
