I was a member of the Vehicle Dynamics sub team developing the mechanical aspects of the formula electric vehicle for the 2024 Formula SAE competition.
Although my involvement was brief, I was introduced to the mechanical aspects of automobiles and an idea of the work that goes into building a formula racing vehicles.
I was helped out in general tasks such as assembling the vehicle together, and I was tasked with generating a few solutions to optimize vehicle efficiency as shown below.
Created uprights adapter for bolt size reduction to minimize vehicle weight.
I was also tasked with creating an uprights adapter for a smaller bolt due to bolt size reduction to minimize vehicle weight.
One of the projects I worked on was devising a solution for the steering wheel tuner by machining a new, sturdy part to analyze and optimize motion. To do so, we adapted the previous design and improved it, but reducing empty space eliminated slack and improved stability. Using Solidworks, Fusion360, and the Tormach 770M, we designed and manufactured a flush connection between the steering wheel and the torque meter.
We were then able to take measurements and record them using Excel to analyze them and make tuning decisions according to our results.
