If you want best open ear headphones for calls while maintaining full situational awareness during outdoor activities, choose eppfun Bone Conduction Earphones; if you need a secure, classic in-ear fit with superior battery standby time and tactile button controls, choose Dioche Neckband Headphones.
• eppfun Bone Conduction Earphones: Delivers an open-ear design that keeps your ears free for safety and comfort during runs or commutes, but lacks the deep bass isolation of traditional drivers.
• Dioche Neckband Headphones: Offers a secure magnetic neckband with mechanical buttons and high dynamic range sound, though it blocks out some environmental noise by nature of its in-ear placement.
• Best for Safety & Awareness: The eppfun is the clear winner for anyone who needs to hear traffic or surroundings while listening to music.
• Best for Classic Audio & Control: The Dioche suits users who prefer the feel of earbuds and want physical buttons for easy volume and track management.
The eppfun Bluetooth Bone Conduction Earphones are engineered for a specific lifestyle: one where staying connected to the world around you is just as important as enjoying your own audio. These aren't your standard over-the-head or in-ear cans; they utilize bone conduction technology to bypass the eardrum entirely. This design choice fundamentally changes the user experience. You get expansive, rich stereo sound that adds power and punch to your music, yet your ear canals remain completely open. For anyone who has ever felt claustrophobic wearing traditional earbuds or worried about missing a car horn while running down a busy street, this is the solution.
This product shines brightest for outdoor enthusiasts. Whether you are cycling through city traffic, running on a trail, or commuting in a noisy environment, the open-ear design ensures you never lose touch with your surroundings. The manufacturer explicitly markets this for avoiding emergencies and dangerous situations while driving or exercising. If you have ever had to take off your headphones to hear someone yell at you, or if you simply dislike the pressure of in-ear tips, these will feel liberating. They sit comfortably over your ears without sealing them off, allowing for long-duration wear without the fatigue associated with blocked airways.

However, they come with trade-offs that every buyer must consider before purchasing. Because they do not seal the ear canal, they cannot offer the passive noise cancellation of traditional headphones. In very loud environments, you might find yourself turning up the volume higher than usual to compete with background noise. Additionally, while the IPX5 rating makes them sweat-proof and water-resistant for intense workouts and bad weather, they are not designed for swimming. The charging process relies on a magnetic connection via USB Type-A, which is convenient, but you must ensure the moisture detection alarm isn't triggered before plugging them in. If you prioritize absolute silence or deep bass immersion above all else, this open-ear approach might feel like too much of a compromise.
The Dioche Neckband Headphones cater to a different set of priorities, focusing on the reliability of a classic wireless form factor combined with robust battery performance. These headphones feature an in-ear design with ergonomic hooks that slide into your ear canal, providing a snug fit that prevents them from falling out during vigorous movement. The neckband itself wraps around your neck, keeping the unit secure and preventing the frustration of tangled wires. This design is ideal for those who prefer the familiar sensation of earbuds but want the freedom of a wireless connection without the anxiety of tiny buds slipping out of their ears.
One of the standout features here is the control scheme. Unlike many modern touch-sensitive earbuds that can be finicky or accidentally triggered by adjusting your hair, the Dioche uses mechanical push-button controls. These multifunction buttons allow for seamless operation of music, calls, and volume directly on the band. For users who value tactile feedback and don't want to guess whether a tap worked, this is a significant advantage. The audio quality is driven by dynamic drivers rather than bone conduction, delivering what the specs describe as "crisp and clear audio" with a high dynamic range. This means you will likely experience more distinct separation between instruments and deeper bass response compared to the open-air approach of bone conductors.
Battery life is another area where this model stands out. While both units offer eight hours of continuous playback, the Dioche boasts an impressive 300 hours of standby time. This is a crucial distinction for users who might charge their headphones once a week rather than daily. The magnetic earbuds also snap together when not in use, making storage easy and preventing loss. However, the in-ear nature means you will still experience some isolation from the outside world. While this helps with focus, it removes the safety benefit of hearing ambient noise. Furthermore, while they are sweat and water-resistant for light rain and gym sessions, they are not submersible. If you are looking for a headphone that feels like a traditional pair of earbuds but with the added convenience of a neck strap, this is a strong contender.
• Best for Calls in Noisy Environments: The eppfun utilizes a microphone paired with a DSP algorithm to isolate ambient noise, making it excellent for voice assistant interactions and phone calls while moving.
• Best for Battery Standby: The Dioche offers a massive 300-hour standby mode compared to the eppfun's standard usage profile, meaning you won't need to worry about it draining while sitting in a drawer.
• Best for Situational Awareness: If your primary goal is to listen to music while remaining aware of your surroundings for safety, the eppfun's open-ear design is the only logical choice.
• Best for Tactile Controls: Users who prefer physical buttons over touch sensors for managing volume and tracks will find the Dioche's mechanical interface far more reliable.
• Best for Bass and Immersion: The Dioche's dynamic drivers provide a more traditional, immersive audio experience with better low-end response than the bone conduction drivers.
• Best for Secure Fit During Intense Activity: Both are secure, but the Dioche's in-ear hooks and magnetic closure prevent them from shifting or falling out in ways that over-ear bone conductors might.
• Best for Water Resistance: Both carry an IPX5 rating, ensuring they handle sweat and light rain equally well, though neither should be submerged.
• Best Value for Long-Term Storage: The Dioche's longer standby time makes it more practical for users who do not use their headphones every single day.
After analyzing the specifications and intended use cases, I would buy the eppfun Bone Conduction Earphones if my primary focus was for calls while engaging in outdoor activities. The ability to keep my ears open while using a DSP-enhanced microphone creates a unique balance of safety and communication that traditional headphones simply cannot match. For runners, cyclists, or commuters who need to stay alert, the open-ear design is not just a feature; it is a necessity. However, if I were mostly stationary, wanted deeper bass, or preferred physical buttons, the Dioche would be my choice. But for the specific scenario of being active and needing to communicate clearly, the eppfun delivers a safer, more functional experience.
Yes, the eppfun model includes a dedicated microphone and DSP algorithm specifically designed to isolate ambient noise, ensuring clear voice transmission even while you are moving or outdoors.
Both models offer 8 hours of continuous playback, but the Dioche neckband provides a significantly longer 300 hours of standby time, making it better for infrequent users who want the device ready weeks later.
No, neither the eppfun nor the Dioche is suitable for swimming. Both carry an IPX5 rating which protects against sweat and light rain, but neither is waterproof enough for submersion.
For pure audio immersion and bass depth, the Dioche Neckband Headphones with their dynamic drivers are generally superior, whereas the eppfun is optimized for openness and safety rather than total sound isolation.
