I've taken the class as a community member in the past. Can I still register this year? In future years?
Yes, we welcome folks to attend the course year after year. The content and speakers generally change each year, so we hope the course brings new opportunities annually.
How do I get academic credit for this course?
If you're a UIC student, you need to register for the course as a student in the course registration system to get course credit. For non-UIC students, you need to work with your academic institution to understand how to get credit where you study. You should communicate this information and your desire to get academic credit to the course instruction team ASAP so they can determine if it's feasible. There is no guarantee we can provide course credit for students at other institutions.
Will sessions be recorded? How can I view session recordings?
All sessions that are open to community members will be recorded. You can find a link to session recordings in the "Weekly Content" tab.
What is the timeline for the course? When does the course meet?
You can find the course schedule under the "Weekly Content" tab.
Do I get a certificate of completion for completing this course?
Since we have, on average, 400+ unique community members who participate in E of I each spring we do not current provide certificates of completion. In order to do this, we'd have to track attendance for all 400, determine a cut off for what constitutes full completion, and produce the certificates. If you are hoping to use E of I to satisfy continuing education hours or another requirement for your job, please email the instruction team ASAP to communicate this to them and see if they can accommodate your request. We cannot guarantee being able to provide any proof of completion at this time.
I need to miss a class session. What should I do?
If you need to miss a class session, we kindly ask that you do not register for the session so another community member can register instead. We have limited capacity, so it's important that only folks who can attend register. If you've already registered and cannot attend, feel free to email rph.uic@gmail.com to let us know you can't make it. All course sessions will be recorded and posted on the course site for you to view on your own time if you miss a session.
Are there readings or materials I should engage with before course sessions?
All course readings are optional for community members, but you're welcome to review any course readings under the "Weekly Content" tab for sessions that have designated readings.
Can I suggest a topic for this year's course or future courses?
The topics for this year's course have already been selected. If you have ideas for future courses, you're welcome to send them to rph.uic@gmail.com. We cannot guarantee that we will incorporate all requests, but we do enjoy hearing about the topics folks are interested in hearing about in E of I!
How Can I collaborate with E of I?
There are two ways to collaborate with E of I. The first is as a member of the planning committee. All planning committee members are part of Radical Public Health, the organization at the University of Illinois Chicago that plans the class. To join RPH, please come to an upcoming monthly meeting. You can email rph.uic@gmail.com to get a list of meeting dates, and are welcome to join virtually or in person if you're in the Chicago area.
The second way to collaborate with E of I would be as a speaker or action lab facilitator. We have all of our speaker/facilitator collaborations set for the 2025 E of I course, but if you send your resume/CV and/or a short summary of your topical expertise and work to rph.uic@gmail.com, the planning team can review if for consideration for the next class in 2026.
