Odysseus and Penelope rule the Greek island of Ithaca. Odysseus is also known more famously as the Latin Ulysses, and is the hero of Homer's epic, The Odyssey. Their tragic story started when Odysseus left to fight in the long Trojan war. This war lasted ten years, and on Odysseus' way home, he was shipwrecked multiple times and faced the wrath of several gods. For another ten years, everyone thought he was dead but Penelope. She refused to remarry to any of the 108 potential suitors, but her household was endangered by their greed, for they were staying in Ithaca. When Odysseus finally returned home, he was in disguise, and no one recognized him but his faithful dog until he revealed he knew certain private details only Odysseus would know.
King Nala and Princess Damayanti ruled the Nishadha Kingdom. They met when a swan brought news of the King to the Princess while she was sitting with her friends. But King Nala lost everything--his wealth and kingdom-- to his brother in a gambling match when he was possessed by the demon Kali and abandoned Princess Damayanti in the forest. Nala served under another king unknown to anyone. He soon returned to Princess Damayanti when she was going through the process to be married to another man. With a turn of luck, he was able to win back his wealth, stay on the path of righteousness, and overcome the influence of others.
