Mission Statement
The European Parliament History Network is an informal academic network founded by its coordinators as a forum for intellectual exchange on the history of the European Parliament up to the present day, by scholars in the humanities and social sciences. We seek to foster new research on the European Parliament in the broader context of European integration and the history of post-war Europe; create a space for cooperation, with potential for joint projects or funding bids; include PhD students and early career researchers and motivate them to work on related topics; and facilitate the presentation and dissemination of research findings, as well as their academic and other impact.
We send out occasional newsletters to provide information about our events and about new publications about the history of the European Parliament. We also organize online events in different formats (seminar, workshop) about themes in the history of the European Parliament in interdisciplinary perspective, with the participation of historians and social scientists and occasionally, practitioners with experience in the European Parliament, either as MEPs or officials.
We have no institutional connection with the European Parliament of any kind. Rather, we would like to highlight that since 2022 the European Parliament has its own History Service (HIST), with internal functions. Anyone interested in working on the history of the European Parliament can and should of course also contact the Historical Archives of the European Parliament (HAEP), which, moreover, have already digitized many sources and made them publicly available.
If you wish to alert us to any of your most recent publications about the history of the European Parliament, please contact Professor Kaiser at Wolfram.Kaiser@port.ac.uk, so that we may include them in one of our newsletters.
