Economics of Prosociality, Altruism and Charity (EPAC)

The Economics of Prosociality, Altruism and Charity (EPAC) research team consists of researchers investigating different aspects of prosocial behavior.

Background

Our research aims to develop a better understanding of both the motivations for prosocial behaviour and the factors that trigger these motivations. Social cues and perceptions relating to the context can influence behaviour. The anticipated goal is to apply behavioural insights to inform initiatives that influence prosocial activities such as reciprocity, cooperation, charitable giving, redistribution, and more generally, improve the understanding of the underlying mechanisms of prosocial behaviour.

Current research topics

Current research topics include:

  • Heterogeneity in motivations and beliefs in prosocial behavior

  • Interactions between motivations and institutional factors

  • The role of information on prosocial behavior

  • Interactions between warm glow and image concerns

  • Prosocial behavior and paternalism

These projects are funded by the Australian Research Council (ARC).
