During the Phanerozoic Eon, Earth experienced a significant rise in complex life forms, with diverse animals and plants populating the planet, marked by the presence of hard body parts that readily fossilize, making it the "visible life" era; this eon also saw major continental drift events, including the formation of the supercontinent Pangaea and its subsequent breakup, shaping the Earth's current continental configuration as we know it today. The Phanerozoic Eon is the current Eon and the Eon where the earth has experienced abundant life minus the relatively short periods of extinctions. It is also less than one billion years since the start of this Eon if judged by the astrological definition of an Eon. We live during the Phanerozoic, which means "visible life." This is the interval of geological time characterized by abundant, complex fossilized remains. Being the youngest eon of time, it is also very well represented by rock at Earth's surface.
