Each Orton-Gillingham lesson incorporates key components designed to create a positive learning experience and promote growth for students with auditory and/or visual processing challenges. For students with dysgraphia, we emphasize letter and number formation practice to address this condition. Our lessons aim to solidify skills that may initially be insecure. Using multisensory practices ensures that the brain effectively organizes visual and auditory information, enabling students to access it more easily. This approach naturally enhances fluency and comprehension. When these things improve, students work more independently, engage more with learning, and have fewer social, emotional, and behavior issues.
In each structured Orton-Gillingham lesson, the relationship between tutor and student is paramount. By fostering a trusting and supportive environment, I can better understand each student’s unique needs and learning style. This personalized approach not only makes lessons more engaging and effective but also builds the student’s confidence and motivation. Through consistent, compassionate interaction, we create a safe space where students feel comfortable taking risks and making mistakes, which are essential for growth. Building strong relationships is the cornerstone of my tutoring, ensuring that each student receives the encouragement and individualized support they need to thrive.
