Attendance is important for performing well in the class. There will be accessible resources for accessing classwork outside of class, but live class attendance is expected.
If you know you will miss a class, please communicate with me as I must keep track due to COVID reporting policies.
We will complete regular in-class work, to be turned in at the end of the class session. There will be approximately 20 small assignments throughout the semester as part of a participation grade. The lowest four grades will be dropped. If you miss one of these class sessions, this will count towards one of the four dropped assignment grades.
Occassionally, readings/short lecture-based videos will be provided asynchronously using a variety of media, such as PlayPosit, with comprehension questions included. Answering these questions will be included as in-class exercises.
You may contact the instructor outside of class time via email from your Whittier account as emails sent from other accounts may be sent to spam. You should usually expect a response within 24 hours during weekdays, but may be delayed up to 48 hours over a weekend or holiday.
If you do not receive a response withing 24 hours, please send your message again as it may have been simply missed.
To promote student agency, please consult the syllabus or Moodle for any answers to your questions before emailing the instructor.
You may use their personal devices for academic purposes related to this class. Laptops or other electronic devices are required during class time for you to be successful in this course. Please refrain from using your phone to access the course as we will be working on assignments during the class period. Academic purposes include looking up terms, doing research, and completing in-class work for this class. Please be respectful to everyone in the classroom by being present and interacting during the class period.
For class, you will need Microsoft Office at a minimum, as well as a pdf reader or viewer.
A Google account is recommended. If you do not have it or need help accessing it, please let me know.
You will be asked to regularly take pictures and upload them to our documents, if your phone is not able to do this, please let me know.
If you use an Apple product, please be sure to convert all files to either pdf or word to upload the assignments.
You can access course readings on Moodle or via provided web links.
Class recording will be accessible later the same day of class on Moodle. The link will contain a passcode.
Please see below for recorded “tech tours” of the course (coming soon)
Communicate!
We will figure out the best way to catch up on any missed material.
If this is a COVID-related event, please report via the COVID Procedures found here... https://www.whittier.edu/covid19

Title IX prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex, which includes sexual misconduct – including harassment, domestic and dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking. We understand that sexual violence can undermine students’ academic success, and we encourage anyone dealing with sexual misconduct to talk to someone about their experience, so they can get the support they need. Confidential support can be found with the Whittier College Counseling Center. See https://www.whittier.edu/policies/sexualmisconduct for more information.
Whittier College’s Student Counseling Center provides a full range of counseling services designed to help students cope with the challenges and stress in their daily lives to achieve their full human potential. These services are provided at no cost to currently enrolled students at Whittier. See https://www.whittier.edu/counseling for more information.
