Introduction to Environmental Justice
Environments can be dangerous for children. It is important that ALL environments are free of unhealthy materials. Continue to fight against environmental injustice for our future children and for us as a community.

Dangerous levels of lead
Homes or schools where some insects or animals leave droppings. (roaches, rats, mice, etc.)
Playground near a chemical plant or waste disposal site
Farming
Unhealthy materials at the workplace
Healthy conscious environments (ex: hospitals)

Environmental justice movement
Efforts to bring attention to the fact that some people were sharing an unequal portion of illness because of where they lived, worked, and played.
The federal agency National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS).
This department is dedicated to doing research environmental agents that cause illness and death
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
Develop laws that help promote healthy environments.
For EPA to pass laws, NIEHS must identify appropriate environmental concerns first.
