Exodus Web3 Wallet: Features, Security, and What Users Should Know
Exodus Web3 Wallet: Features, Security, and What Users Should Know
The Exodus Web3 Wallet was designed as a browser-based self-custody wallet for interacting with decentralized applications, managing supported crypto assets, and accessing Web3 services. Unlike a custodial exchange, a self-custody wallet gives users control over their wallet keys and places responsibility for account security directly with the user.
However, there is an important current update: Exodus ended support for the Web3 Wallet browser extension on October 1, 2026. New users can no longer install the extension, and existing users can no longer use it for sending, receiving, or viewing balances.
Exodus Web3 Wallet was a browser extension created to provide convenient access to decentralized applications, DeFi platforms, NFTs, swaps, and other blockchain-based services. It was designed for Chrome-based browsers, including Google Chrome and Brave.
The wallet operated on a self-custody model. Users controlled their 12-word secret key rather than relying on Exodus to hold their private keys. This provided greater control but also meant that losing the wallet backup could result in losing access to funds.
During its supported period, Exodus Web3 Wallet offered several useful capabilities:
Browser-based Web3 access
Self-custody wallet management
Connections to decentralized applications
Support for multiple blockchain networks
Crypto sending and receiving
Token swapping
NFT interaction
Wallet restoration through a compatible secret key
Exodus also described its Web3 Wallet as a way to connect with dApps, DeFi, and broader Web3 services.
The most important update for users searching for Exodus Web3 Wallet today is that the browser extension has been discontinued.
According to Exodus, users who still have the extension installed can view their 12-word secret key, but the extension can no longer be used normally. Users who held funds in the wallet can restore them using the secret key in Exodus Mobile or another compatible wallet.
This means new users should not look for unofficial copies or third-party downloads claiming to provide the discontinued browser extension.
If you previously used Exodus Web3 Wallet, your 12-word secret key is particularly important. Exodus states that the key can be used to restore the wallet in Exodus Mobile or another compatible wallet.
Never publish or share your secret key online. Do not give it to anyone claiming to be Exodus Support. Anyone who obtains the key may be able to control the associated assets.
If you still have the discontinued extension installed, follow official Exodus instructions to view your secret key before removing the extension, because Exodus states that uninstalling it prevents you from viewing the key through that extension again.
The broader Exodus wallet ecosystem continues to emphasize self-custody. Exodus states that its wallet generates keys locally and that users maintain control over their secret key and private keys.
This model can provide greater control over cryptocurrency, but it also removes the possibility of conventional account recovery through a centralized provider. Users therefore need to take responsibility for wallet backups, device security, and private-key protection.

No. Exodus states that new users can no longer install the discontinued extension. Avoid unofficial websites offering old installation files.
A self-custody wallet gives the user control over the private keys or secret key associated with their crypto assets. With that control comes responsibility for protecting the wallet backup.
The Exodus Web3 Wallet was a browser-based solution for accessing Web3 applications and managing supported digital assets. However, the browser extension has now been discontinued, so users should not rely on old installation guides or unofficial downloads. Existing users should protect their 12-word secret key and follow official Exodus guidance for restoring their wallet to a supported application.
