HALF GIRLFRIEND - CHETAN BHAGAT

MRUDULA M.M

Excellent book. Madhav and Riya make a good story and it takes new turns when they go on spaceship and explore new intergalactical planetary systems. Book deals nicely with the poverty, terrorism, depression during world war 2 and world political problems. Or may be not, I am just hallucinating. This is a simple book with simple story. Go read it, you will enjoy it --By Bhallukie on November 16, 2014

The story is simple yet lovable. I couldn't resist reading the entire book in one sitting. I too fell in love with the character Riya while reading the book. This is my third favorite book from the author Chetan Bhagat. The other too being 'five point someone' and 'three mistakes of my life'. --By Onion Knight on November 27, 2014

THE MONK WHO SOLD HIS FERRARI -ROBIN SHARMA

MANJULA RAHGU PRADEEP NAIR

Though I had gone through many self help books, this one ie: The monk who sold his Ferrari is entirely different from other self help books. The author Robin Sharma has presented it in a fiction mode. It guide us how to fulfill our dreams. The story is about Julian mantle who is a successful lawyer but he is full of tension and work pressure and he finally decided to leave his luxurious life and went to Himalayan Mountains in search of peace. The theme of this book is 7 important lessons Julian learned from Himalaya

1. Master ur mind

2. Follow ur purpose

3. Practice kaizen(constant and never ending improvement).

4. Live with discipline

5. Respect ur time

6. Selflessly serve others

7. Embrace the present

Once you read this book u will never allow negative thoughts to enter in ur mind. Will find positiveness in everything. I always recommend my students and friends to read this book.

THE LEGEND OF KHASAK - O.V VIJAYAN

GLADWIN PETER

The legends of khasak is the story of the inhabitants of a nondescript remote land by name Khasakk, beyond Kooman Kavu having a few makeshift shops, not exposed to civilization and perhaps comparable to that of the tribal hamlets of Attappady. The scene of the story is an upcountry place with little transport and communications and no proper roads with bullock carts being the main vehicle. It is located somewhere off Palghat bordering Tamil Nadu and as such the people are mostly Tamil speaking. Yet it is not chaste Tamil but a mixture of Tamil and Malayalam and the expressions are mostly slang. Muslims form a major portion of its population with Hindus accounting for the rest. Modern education is almost unheard of there and the children are imparted religious teaching in Othupalli (mosque) or basic education in a far off Ezhuthu palli. People are generally averse to modern education, their logic being what to do with education. They are also highly superstitious. They believe that killer diseases are caused by the wrath of gods or by some ghosts possessing the body of the afflicted. Therefore, treatments are made by religious heads or priests or oracles (velichappad) by othu, oothal, possessed dance by oracles who bang their heads with swords and sabres. Small pox is believed to be caused by pothi (bhagavathy) who stays in the body of the victim as his wife till he is cured.

The story which is not eventful takes the reader for a cross country run across the rustic life of the inhabitants of the village. There is a multitude of characters, each one being a specimen of the type of people living there.

THE SECRET - RHONDA BYRNE

NEENA HARI

It is a must read book for all, especially younger generation as it can bring lots of changes in life. It is a motivational book. It fills us with positivity and hope. "Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested ". Secret belongs to the last category as it has to be read wholly, and with diligence and attention.
