Journal Entry 1:
First Ascent 9/11-9/13
First Ascent 9/11-9/13
This Friday afternoon I packed up my things and headed to catch the van going to the Kennedy Mountain Campus. I stayed there from Friday to Sunday. The bus ride was very long and there was a lot of traffic, but I had fun talking to the people on the way there. We listened to music through the speakers and looked out the windows at the beautiful mountains with the sun beaming down on them.
When we arrived on campus we settled into our cabins and got to meet everyone in our cabins. We then headed off to the campus dining hall and had a delicious dinner with our cabin group. Dinner consisted of soup, ham, bread, and salad. It was very good. After dinner I went and played bocce ball with some people from my cabin. We also went to play pingpong in the game area by the dining hall.
It was then time to head to bed for the night. The beds were very uncomfortable, but I still slept hard the first night. In the morning me and my friends went to get breakfast, which was delicious. They were serving pancakes and eggs. During breakfast we signed up for our activities. I decided to sign up for beginers mountain biking which was very fun. I had never done it before. The view of the mountain was incredible from up high, although the altitude made it very hard to breathe and I wasn't able to peddle as fast as I would have liked to. It was still a super fun experience.
Later in the day me and my group decided to sign up for archery tag. This was by far my highlight of the weekend. My team did not win the archery tag, but it was fun to watch the other teams play through until the end. It was three vs. three style and the objective was to hit your oponents and catch their arrows if possible. Similar to dodge ball. Hitting an opponent was two points and catching an arrow was one.
Later that night I went back to my cabin to play Jackbox with my friends. Which is a fun website with trivia and joke games. I had a lot of fun bonding with the people in my cabin tonight and making new friends. After playing Jackbox we headed to the bonfire, sat down, and ate some smores. The fire was very warm and enjoyable, and the smores tasted delicious.
Once it got much darker out we headed over to the hammocks and stared out at the stars which was very surreal. The view of the night sky from over here looks amazing.
By this point it was time to get ready for bed and head back to campus tommorow. I'm very glad that I went on this trip and did the activities I did, and met the people I met. It was a great way to step away from the main campus and relax for a bit. I hope that I come back again at some point. I highly recommend signing up for First Ascent if you haven't already. This will definitely be one of my favorite college memories. The nature at Kennedy Mountain Campus is very pretty.
