The peak of the Black Lives Matter Movement, as it stands, demonstrated a major societal push against racially motivated violence and police brutality towards African Americans. What began as a trending hashtag in 2013 morphed into an international movement in the name of advocacy for Black people. There was an urgency in the air to amplify the voices of the oppressed, one of which being a surprising yet frequently impactful medium. That unexpected method would be fashion. Whether its bold, striking styles or direct, powerful statements printed on shirts, clothing has and continues to offer impactful means to spread awareness of a message, especially liberation. The platform in which the outfits are displayed provides a substantial effectiveness as well. In this podcast, we will delve into how the Black Lives Matter movement affected fashion at its highest point thus far in a rhetorical analysis of the British Broadcasting Corporation's article How Black Lives Matter changed fashion in 2020 by Fedora Abu. We will assess how clothes and the people who wore them effectively communicated the importance of social justice. Throughout the podcast, we will also assess sources and techniques the author utilizes to prove the movement’s impact on modern fashion.
