Exploring Alternative Academic Careers, featuring Kevin Kelly, EdD
Friday, May 6, 2022, 1:00 pm - 1:50pm
Friday, May 6, 2022, 1:00 pm - 1:50pm
A growing number of people completing graduate degrees now seek alternative academic or “alt-ac” positions. These positions provide interesting opportunities in higher education and at other organizations with academic missions. With global uncertainty during a pandemic about the future, it is more important than ever to take time to identify where you are now in your career, where you want to be, and how you might get there. Join us for an interactive session as we answer the following questions together: How do I find work that aligns with my values? What skills do I have that translate to alt-ac positions? What skills do I still need?
ABOUT DR. KELLY
Kevin Kelly, EdD, teaches online courses as a Lecturer in the Department of Equity, Leadership Studies, and Instructional Technologies at San Francisco State University, where he also previously served as the Online Teaching and Learning Manager. He works with colleges and universities as a consultant to address distance education, educational technology, and organizational challenges. Kevin has co-authored two recent books--Going Alt-Ac: A Guide to Alternative Academic Careers (2020, with Katie Linder and Tom Tobin), and Advancing Online Teaching: Creating Equity-Based Digital Learning Environments (2021, with Todd Zakrajsek).
Welcome back to campus!
We hope many of you are able to attend the conference in person and visit familiar spaces -- or for some of you, you'll be getting to know the campus for the first time!
