Shawn (00:45):
All right. That little boy is right. It's time for English All Over the Place. Your favorite podcast - I hope - of, uh, listening to funny English teachers talk, and hopefully, um, giving you a chance to improve your listening skills, uh, as always I am your hostess with the most-est. Um, that probably doesn't sound that funny, actually. Uh, Shawn, and, uh, uh, the best thing to come out of Wooster, Ohio, uh, is my esteemed cohost:
Barney (01:20):
Yeah, you guys can just call me Barney and, uh, yeah, especially after talking about the, "My Hometown" episode - That is high praise for sure.
Shawn (01:31):
[Gasp] I can't remember anybody else that came out on Wooster, Wooster. Wasn't who else came out of Wooster, Ohio?
Barney (01:38):
Um, yeah, not so many, but, um, I remember that, uh, David Bowie's son went to the college
Shawn (01:42):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. By the way, (He's not from there), he went to the college there, right?
Barney (01:49):
Yeah. Yes, right. I'm still the best.
Shawn (01:53):
There's that humility that I, I know and love.
Barney (01:56):
Us Mennonites are known for that.
Shawn (01:57):
Well, you guys are known for tooting your own horns all the time. (Oh, I know.) You know, "Mennonites number one in the house!"
Barney (02:06):
[inaudible] on our black cars.
Shawn (02:08):
Quakers suck. No. Okay. Yes. You're just running donuts around the Amish, you know, in your car,
Barney (02:17):
You guys think we're too "worldly," - I'll show you "worldly!"
Shawn (02:21):
What's the matter? Am I spooking the horse? Don't you have a barn to go put up somewhere where?
Barney (02:29):
I could come and help you, but I'd have to bring my power tools.
Shawn (02:33):
Whoa...The devil, the devil is at work there. Excuse me, while I zip up my jacket. (Right?) Avert your eyes. (For shame!) Boy. I didn't think I'd get to work out all my Amish jokes here today. (True! I know.) Um, today I thought, uh, I think we've had this idea for a long time. Uh, talk about children's TV shows. Uh, both of us are fathers. I have two boys and one girl.
Barney (03:05):
I have two boys.
Shawn (03:06):
Two boys? Yes. So combined, we have quite a lot of kids and that's quite a lot of TV and YouTube videos at home. (Oh boy.) And, uh, before we get into, um, what our kids watch or don't watch, uh, what did you watch when you were a kid?
Barney (03:23):
Yeah, boy, that boy, that was the time when kids' TV was early in the morning on the weekdays or Saturday morning.
Shawn (03:31):
Saturday mornings were so much fun. (Yeah. Oh yeah!) Before, before cable TV, that was the day from like 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Saturday morning cartoons.
Barney (03:43):
And of course my mom eventually signed me up for piano from 10 to 11
Shawn (03:49):
Abusive, abusive,
Barney (03:52):
But yeah, my brother and I, we used to, um, use sticky tack and tape our digital watches above our, on our headboards and set the time for like 6:25 so that we could watch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Shawn (04:08):
Ah, T-M-N-T, yes.
Barney (04:11):
Yeah, and before that I was, um, I kind of would, I was really bad at knowing when shows were on, so I would occasionally catch "He-Man" or "She-ra," Um, I always ran into the "ThunderCats."
Shawn (04:24):
Yes, "ThunderCats" yes. I heard that "ThunderCats are 'ho!'"
Barney (04:29):
Yes they are. And um, I, uh, I would watch the, um, the live action Mario ones, (uh! Horrible!) but I didn't like the Mario ones as much, but every Friday they had the Zelda ones and I loved those!
Shawn (04:43):
Hmm. I don't remember those. Yeah.
Barney (04:45):
Those are those. I think those are the most memories that I have of ...
Shawn (04:49):
You're close to my generation, but I'm a bit older. So I have, um, I do, I did watch, um, I watched GI Joe, Transformers and uh, [imitates a vehicle transforming into a robot] you know, those transforming sounds. (Yeah.) Um, and if you do like Transformers, I would recommend - not the movies, but I would recommend the Bumblebee movie. It was a lot of fun and the first few moments of the Bumblebee movie show them fighting on the planet - th-the transformers planet - and it looks amazing, you know, it's like, because computer graphics are just, of course, amazing now. So yeah, it was just well done and it's a funny movie: Bumblebee. So, um, uh, I also watched He-Man, which is the, probably the, uh, uh, I know it's like a 30 minute commercial, but we didn't know any better at the time. Um, and, uh, um, besides the homoerotic tones, um, uh, I thought it was a pretty fun show, but occasionally it confused me, um, because.
Barney (05:54):
Oh, in "that way?"
Shawn (05:54):
You know, well, no, no, I have, these ... why are my pants tight? Um, these feelings, (So confusing!) I have to be alone now. Um, no, um, no, no, no. Uh, that's, that's a good one though, but, uh, because they had these swords and shields, it was kind of a medieval theme then occasionally you'd see like a villain or a hero with like a laser blaster and you're going, wait a minute, lasers, swords, what era are we in here? I mean, where's the consistency, come on. You know...
Barney (06:34):
I never understood about, I never understood about Orko ...
Shawn (06:38):
Orko? The-the, the little floating wizard guy?
Barney (06:41):
With no face... Yeah.
Shawn (06:43):
Well, I believe he was related to a jawa, the jawas. (Yeah, right! Yeah.). But, uh, Orko, I think was pretty funny, um, (Always missing things up) there always has to be some comedy relief. You know, I understand that because you have a whole bunch of people with muscles and, you know, and very serious. And I mean, maybe you could never understand why people couldn't place, um, what was it He-Man's name - it was prince something.
Barney (07:16):
Yeah.
Shawn (07:18):
He was a prince and then he'd transform (Yeah, that lineage.) Yeah. Nobody knows. It's like a Clark Kent superhero thing. I dunno. But also another show that I liked at the time was actually Japanese. It was called "Robotech" and it was a repackaging of three different series, um, on Japanese TV. And I didn't know, until later that was three different series in a row. But the great thing about this, this was, this show was lightyears ahead of the American shows like GI Joe - where the story did not continue to the next episode. You know, it was always like one story, "Cobra's defeated;" next story: They forget everything that happened before. And also like, nobody dies. All this shooting and nobody dies. They're from the Stormtrooper School of Accuracy. (Yeah!) But with Robotech, um, characters actually died in the show and, um, uh, there was romance, there was battles. The story continued, you know, every episode was important to catch. So this was the first experience I had of that. And I love that show.
Barney (08:28):
And this was just on, just on regular TV?
Shawn (08:32):
Regular TV. Yeah. (No kidding?) Like weekdays at 4:30, you know, I made sure to catch it every time. Um, and it's called "Macross" in Japanese and, uh, "makku rosu," and, uh, Japanese otaku will know it. Um, but, uh, it was a great series in the 80s. Um, so what are your kids watching these days?
Barney (08:56):
Yeah, let's see. Um, you know, we, especially, we have the, um, the smart TV, so I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Um, Yuma, he, he really liked, um, he really liked something called, uh, BabyBus (Oh yes.) From, uh, you know it? Yeah. From China and when he was younger, he actually equally liked the Chinese version and he was starting to pick up some words, especially because my wife can speak Chinese.
Shawn (09:27):
Communist!
Barney (09:28):
Yeah. It's her thing. And then he kind of fell out of that. And, um,
Shawn (09:33):
When they started talking about "The Party" too much
Barney (09:37):
Yeah! I know! And, um, he started to like, um, I guess I can just list them. So he, he, like some of these, he goes off and on, it goes through kicks, but, um, like Blippy, um, he liked, um, Octonauts.
Shawn (09:52):
Oh, yes. That's a good show.
Barney (09:53):
Yeah. I really liked that one. And, um, yeah. Uh, and then Thomas, thankfully I was worried that he never really would get going with Thomas, but, um, 'cause he still, he he's really sensitive. He's still fast forwards when he thinks someone's going to get in trouble.
Shawn (10:15):
Oh my gosh. Well, my sons were big - especially my first son - was a big Thomas fan from the beginning. Maybe that's the first show I can remember him watching regularly and liking. Not so much now, unfortunately, you know, these things happen, but, uh, I still record every Thomas episode, (Oh yeah!) although now often it just goes unwatched, which is kind of sad, but I, I fell in love with Thomas and I know you did too, right?
Barney (10:42):
Yes. Yeah, for sure.
Shawn (10:44):
So we would, we would, um, after we went through all the most recent episodes on TV and, uh, and the cool thing about Japanese TV is you can switch the vocal - the, uh audio - so it goes to the English one. Um,
Barney (10:58):
And it's the UK voices!
Shawn (11:00):
Well, not anymore, (Oh no!) the new NHK now it's the new ones and, uh, and the US version. So like suddenly Toby is like, "Hey, what's going on?" You're like, "Oh, I hate that voice!"
Barney (11:13):
How about Henry's voice too?
Shawn (11:16):
It's very strange. Some of them are still English and some of them are American, so I don't know why they made that choice, but anyway, and we would also catch up on all the hundreds of old episodes, the live action ones.
Barney (11:31):
I love those. They're so charming.
Shawn (11:34):
I would love to see them making those, or I would love to see the models. I wonder if they have any kind of museum in England where you could go see the sets and the original Thomas ones, because it was amazing. It was still entertaining, even though one person was doing it - all the voices at the time.
Barney (11:53):
I liked that a lot. Yeah. And - and - some of them are just five minutes.
Shawn (11:57):
Yeah. Yeah. So that's great for little kids. You don't want to show them a long video. You don't want to get, you know, but of course there was always these, these, um, lapse of logic, (Oh yeah...) that really bugged me, you know? Like how does, how does this railroad company get insured if they seem to have accidents every week? You know, "But luckily no one was hurt."
Barney (12:24):
Yeah...! One giant tree has enough lumber inside of it to build a whole windmill.
Shawn (12:31):
Really? Okay. Yes. But I mean, I mean, and then there was like, the inconsistencies, you'd see, like sometimes you see the engineer pull the brake, you know, and then sometimes you see the trains doing everything on their own. You're like why do they have engineers? What function do the humans have inside the tank engines? (Yeah.) I mean that poor guy in like the two movies ago, Thomas jumps onto a boat going to Brazil. What happens to the engineer? And he's been commandeered he's on a boat going to Brazil.
Barney (13:09):
He and the fireman, Right?
Shawn (13:12):
His poor wife is, like, "Where is Gregory?" you know? And he's writing letters saying,
Barney (13:18):
You know, he was just supposed to do the branch line today.
Shawn (13:21):
I know! "I was supposed to take him back to Tidmouth Sheds and I'm on my, on a boat to Rio," you know?
Barney (13:29):
Because I don't have any control over this train.
Shawn (13:33):
And what do these people do for food? or (Yeah) And how do they exchange money? I don't - (I know!) Obviously as adults, you watch these shows with your kids and you think too much, you know, but I mean, was there anything else that you thought was pretty funny about Thomas?
Barney (13:51):
Oh boy. Um, just the, the one thought that came to my mind, maybe it's not exactly funny, but, um, maybe my very favorite episode is the one where Rusty goes to rescue Stepney, um, the smelter. Um, and, um, I just think this actually is consistency that they had, like, um, they mentioned that the fireman stayed with, uh, Stepney to keep him warm, you know, while he was waiting there. And then so then they just had to borrow, they just had to lend, uh, Rusty's, you know, engineer or something to get Stepney going. And I just, I really liked that. And I really liked that episode. Um,
Shawn (14:35):
I liked the episode with the Boulder, you know, the Boulder up on the hill then eventually rolled - that has a face on it.
Barney (14:44):
I know! It gets real mad!
Shawn (14:45):
And it rolls down the hill after them. And just the, this was one of the "old timey" episodes, real live action, um, model trains. And you see these crazy faces, you know, Ooh, you know, their eyes circling, you know, as their shocked. It was very charming, you know, kind of mysterious at the end - you know?
Barney (15:04):
That one did have a real mysterious kind of, um, you know, don't - why are you messing with nature kind of feel
Shawn (15:11):
And of course, sometimes that show was mean! You know, like, was it, was it Henry that was afraid of the rain?
Barney (15:19):
Yes - and they took up his rails!
Shawn (15:23):
So they, so they walled him up into the tunnel?!
Barney (15:29):
"This is the last straw Henry."
Shawn (15:31):
"Yeah. We're just going to bury you alive!"
Barney (15:35):
Wall you in on both sides and remove the tracks.
Shawn (15:38):
That is harsh. That's a lot of work for punishing somebody.
Barney (15:43):
Don't cr - don't cross that "Fat Controller," I guess.
Shawn (15:46):
I remember. And there was always that, that bus that didn't like trains.
Barney (15:50):
Bulgy!!!
Shawn (15:50):
And then he was like made into like a chicken coop or something like that,
Barney (15:55):
Yes, yes! I remember - that was pretty extreme too.
Shawn (15:58):
So, you know, Fat Controller's jovial, but don't piss him off, you know, don't, don't cause confusion and delay, you know? (Not too many times) You could have a drinking game with - Barn - with uh, with Thomas, you know, um, was it, uh, "confusion and delay?" "Luckily nobody was hurt." (Right.) What other lines are there? Um, oh geez. Like when they're really productive, what did they say? (Uh, "Very useful") "useful," "useful" it's very work ethic. Um, Protestant work ethic.
Barney (16:38):
That - that probably was intentionally in there.
Shawn (16:40):
Yeah. Because of course he was written by, uh, or the show was written by a Reverend, um, I believe, uh, um, W. Audrey, (Right.) Yeah. And, uh, way back in 1945. So yeah, I'm surprised I don't have any Nazi, uh, tr- trains getting messed up in that early version, but, uh, are there shows that your kids like that you can't stand?
Barney (17:07):
Oh yes. Yes. The aforementioned Blippy.
Shawn (17:12):
Blippy?! Uh, yeah. And if, if you don't know who Blippy is, can you tell us, tell the listeners who Blippy is?
Barney (17:18):
Yeah, he's hard to research. Um, what I found is he's (Because he's mysterious?), ex-military.
Shawn (17:25):
He's ex-military?!?!?
Barney (17:27):
Yeah. Probably honorably discharged unless they thought he was just too goofy and kicked him out for that reason. I wouldn't blame them. Um, and
Shawn (17:37):
He kept introducing tanks to an imaginary camera. You know,
Barney (17:41):
He - what? - he wears orange and blue and glasses and a hat, I think. And basically he probably, um, if he's not on coke, he is drinking 20 red bulls and he dances and he does stupid voices and he just basically annoys people, um, under the guise of being educational.
Shawn (18:04):
Yeah. He introduces things in his video, like, uh, he introduces a bus or, or, um, ice rink and Zamboni. I liked the episode, the Zamboni. (That - I liked that one.) So, um, and the bus one too, because kids love buses, you know?
Barney (18:19):
He's good in small doses, but he gets carried away.
Shawn (18:22):
Yeah. Yeah. You do want to put a bullet through his temple.
Barney (18:28):
Yeah. So I have told Google to stop recommending them. Um, but he's still, he still pops up every once in a while.
Shawn (18:35):
I've gotta forward some videos to you. So,
Barney (18:38):
He's so clever at the end of every show, he tells the kids, you know, "Can you spell my name? Yes." And then Yuma of course knows how to spell his name. So he knows how to search it. On YouTube on his own.
Shawn (18:52):
This guy is insidious. And I remember seeing some articles about what was it, people paying money to go to a show of his. And it wasn't him. It was like a knockoff Blippy or something.
Barney (19:06):
And in some of the more recent episodes, they have like, um, a voiceover preview, "In this episode...." And I say to Yuma as like, "Wow, that's not Blippy's voice - that's somebody trying to sound like Blippy." And then I explained; and he's like, oh wow, that's right. So, um, and then he's [Blippy's] really wasteful, like one episode, he makes a peanut butter and raspberry jam sandwich and he just slathers it with both ingredients and he takes a bite and, you know, that's way too sweet. An- and, I said to Yuma, like, he doesn't eat the rest of that sandwich. He just throws it away. And he was like, oh, no, really? And I say, see? He's very wasteful.
Shawn (19:45):
Well, he can afford to waste it.
Barney (19:49):
He can afford to, yeah. Oh man.
Shawn (19:50):
I mean, according to one website, his net worth is anywhere from 16 to $40 million (That's insane). So holy blip. (Yeah.) Well, he found a niche and he -
Barney (20:08):
He did, oh boy, and Google loves him for it.
Shawn (20:11):
He must have done his research though on algorithms and things like that. Yeah.
Barney (20:17):
And I have to commend him for like either it's his friend or it's somebody he hired to make music for him. So he has original songs, original theme song.
Shawn (20:28):
Yeah, they're not bad - the bus song is pretty cool.
Barney (20:29):
And it's, it's not, um, it's not the, the, you know, stuff that other people are using as their background music and (Oh gosh!) yeah. He did it. And, um, but yeah, um, for shows that we really like, and that I also like, um, I always have to plug 20 Trucks because their music is just awesome.
Shawn (20:48):
20 Trucks?
Barney (20:49):
Twenty Trucks. Yeah. They have great songs that are all different genres of music, styles of music that they play to in their only three minutes in they're just ...!
Shawn (21:01):
So a heavy metal truck song, a country truck song; (Yeah!) something like that? (Yeah.) Okay. Um, what other shows here? There's some great shows on Netflix, which is great because I don't like the - or other streaming services in English. Cause we like to show our kids shows in English. (Yeah.) Um, uh, Hilda is a great adventure show. Uh, it was started as a comic book and it's really well done. I think it's won some awards and that's actually, Hilda is the reason I subscribed to Netflix. (Oh, okay.) We were reading the comic books and I was reading it to my son and graphic novels. And, and when I heard that Hilda that was becoming a TV series and that Netflix was doing it. I said, okay, I'll try the a one month trial. And, and uh, you know, several years later I'm still attached to it. But, uh, yeah. And it's a great series. Um, there's lots of great series now. Uh, Puffin Rock is a great one from Ireland. Um, uh, it's got charming Irish narration. Oh my god! I want to sound like that, but, um, it's kind of sad though, because my sons are not into Thomas as much. Now are your sons into Thomas that much anymore?
Barney (22:18):
Yeah, um, Yuma will watch it. And um, we love the songs actually and Silas really likes the songs too. He loves music. The songs are so great. Even like the older movies where it's kind of like the kids' choir that's singing all the songs.
Shawn (22:38):
Did you get to ever get to see The Great Race?
Barney (22:41):
Yes! I really like that one!
Shawn (22:41):
That is a well done movie. (Yeah!) Good songs. Funny. (And a great story.) Best, best one. I think Thomas has had, and I bet you guys didn't think you were going to hear this when you came in for the podcast today. All this talk about Thomas the Tank Engine. But, um, it's fun to have an excuse. Uh, right now we're also watching, we watched all the Star Wars: Rebels, uh, TV shows - the most recent ones and, and recently Bad Batch because we have Disney Plus now. (Oh, cool. Okay.) And I would recommend, um, the movie Lucas it's streaming on Disney Plus now - it's a new one and, uh, it's about like a boy who, uh, once he touches water, he turns back into like a sea monster and they're, they actually live in the ocean, but it's well done. It's well done. Um, and, but the only reason you, you know, and I know the only reason I got Disney Plus was ... The Mandalorian. (Oh yeah!) And then eventually the Marvel stuff too. But, uh, and those, those alone are worth their weight in gold. (Yeah.) Um, I mean, I had to go to so much trouble making a whole different account on a different computer, all this stuff, but because everything I have is tied into the US iTunes, but, um, uh, are there any, let's see what other shows here? Uh, yeah, that's about it. Oh, and, and Japan, they have a TV show called oshiri-tantei, have you guys watched that show? It's very fun. It's very funny. It's very cute. It's very clever. Um, and they'll have moments it's, it's this detective who has a, butt as a face. Yes. Yes. Look it up: oshiri-tantei. And, uh, I'll be - usually he solves the, um, or captures the villain by farting from his mouth. And actually it's not as low class as it sounds. (Right.) Um, it's very well done. It's very appropriate for children. (Okay.) Um, and it comes from a series of books and they have these clever, um, like puzzles, like inside the book, inside the story. It's like, oh, how is T - How is Oshiri Tantei going to go through the warehouse? And they'll actually show that on the TV too, but you have to go, you have to go, my kids will go up to the TV and then we'll put their finger up and like go through the maze and stuff like that. So it's clever. It's well done. Uh, NHK produces it and, uh, apparently I pay for it too, because I have to pay for NHK.
Barney (25:15):
I know... (Well, you know.) They're producing something that we like so that's okay.
Shawn (25:19):
Yes, yes! Uh, "e-tele" they have some excellent kids' programs. Excellent, excellent kids' programs that will appeal to adults too. (Right. Right.) So, uh, are there any, um, movies or anything that, you - that your kids love to watch?
Barney (25:37):
Oh boy. Um, oh yes. Um, the Miffy Movie.
Shawn (25:41):
Miffy?
Barney (25:43):
Yeah. It's on Amazon Prime.
Shawn (25:45):
What's Miffy?
Barney (25:47):
Miffy that rabbit...
Shawn (25:50):
Oh yeah, the rabbit - yes, yes, yes, yes, yes! The TV show is very cute!
Barney (25:50):
And - Yeah. Sadly, Amazon Prime only has the Japanese version, but it also has really good songs and it's very cute and it's 70 minutes. So it's, it's nice for the attention span for them. They can focus on it and it's, and Yuma likes to watch it, and when he watches it, he likes to kind of quiz me, you know, cause they're searching - their parents give them, um, clues, you know, now you have to look - they're at a zoo - you have to look for this kind of animal and Yuma, he's like, "Yeah, they're looking for a striped animal." And I go, "Is it a giraffe?" And he's like, "No striped animals. "Oh yeah. Yeah. Giraffes are spotted. Oh, I know.
Shawn (26:33):
What?! Oh, okay, I see...Zebras.
Barney (26:36):
I know: A tiger? Yeah. Pretending. Yeah, exactly. So they're looking for a zebra and it's, it's really fun. It's a lot of fun and
Shawn (26:42):
Well, I thought, I thought Miffy was cute and they do show them on Japanese TV, like five minutes at a time, but the kids never really got into it, but I thought it was pretty and the way it was animated, looked like - looked like pseudo clay animation, but it's actually computer animation.
Barney (26:59):
Yeah, yeah, that's charming about it.
Barney (27:01):
Do they watch Curious George at all on TV?
Barney (27:04):
No, because, um, George gets into too much trouble
Shawn (27:09):
And your son doesn't like that?
Barney (27:11):
He doesn't even want me to read the books.
Shawn (27:14):
Oh my gosh.
Barney (27:15):
Yeah.
Shawn (27:17):
But he gets into trouble, doesn't he? (Yes, he does.) He doesn't reflect on it in his real life - his actions. (Yeah, right.) There are some funny things that children have some quirks. I mean, my sons could watch Kylo Ren strike down an old man with a lightsaber and not blink. (Right.) But my older son for the longest time was afraid of Salty on Thomas the Tank Engine, because he had buck teeth. For the longest time, I couldn't tell what was, why can't I watch this episode? No, I don't want to see it. I don't want to see it. Don't want to see it. I'm like, "I want to see it." You know, so I, you know, me, the grown-up man, you know, would actually have to go back and watch a Thomas episode by myself, you know, so I can watch it. (Me too! Me too!) You know, I don't know why square faces and - he didn't like those small tank engines.
Barney (28:16):
Awww...Burt and Mike and
Shawn (28:18):
Yeah, there are three, I forget their names, but (I love them!) they're smaller engines. What's wrong with that? So you never know what kids are going to think are scary or not. (Yeah, I know.) So it's kind of funny square faces, buck teeth. Um, I bet he's not gonna like Sanma the comedian, but um, uh, yet, he liked Peter rabbit. I don't know, you know? Um, but, and I've tried to get them into movies more. There's some movies that I love for children that they don't love as much as they should like Paddington. (Oh yeah.) And Paddington two, which are just brilliant, brilliant movies. Um, but they do love the, you know, the Disney and, uh, Frozen and Pixar and stuff like that. So I can watch that with them and enjoy it, but oh, um this, okay: This podcast is going to go long. I'm sorry. I forgot to mention one of the banes of my existence: Paw Patrol.
Barney (29:19):
Oh, no...
Shawn (29:24):
Paw Patrol - Paw Patrol. They'll be there on the double. You know, um, this is a show that kids just love and my kids love it too, but for the life of me, I can't stand it. I mean, I can tolerate it, but it's certainly, there's nothing in there for adults to find entertaining at all.
Barney (29:47):
It's awful.
Shawn (29:49):
And I mean, I guess it's okay. It's kind - it's won some awards and stuff like that. And um, but geez. (Loads of toys) Yeah. Well, I mean, I guess semi educational, but um, um, man, there was another show that I liked better on Amazon. That was actually from Korea. Was it the airplanes
Barney (30:14):
Titipo? Or, um,
Shawn (30:16):
The airplanes are flying around. (Oh, I don't know that) Um, shoot.
Barney (30:20):
Is it part of the, um, that bus and the train universe? What is that...Taiyo?
Shawn (30:27):
Um, no, no, no. It's, it's it's uh, um, uh, anyway, uh, maybe super - Super Wings is what they were called. And I didn't like it because they would go to different locations, different countries to deliver priz - and deliver packages and they learn a little bit about that culture, even if it's just very little but Paw Patrol: O my gosh. I don't see anything redeeming about it. The world has no logic. You know, these humans, dogs living as equals. I don't know. Um, I don't understand. It's just crazy. I mean, and usually Canada gives us great stuff like hockey and John Candy and uh, Eugene Levy, occasionally there's the Justin Bieber, but Canada gave us Paw Patrol apparently. I had to look that up today. I didn't know about that. So damn you Canada!
Barney (31:23):
It really, really, you know, I had such high regards for the country now. I still do, but just a little bit less.
Shawn (31:30):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, hockey is still cool I guess. (Yeah, right.) And uh, at the time of this taping, there's actually a Canadian team in the Stanley Cup finals, which is great. (Yeah! Right.) Yeah. But, uh, you know, go Canadians?? I guess.
Barney (31:45):
Let's see how it goes. Hey.
Shawn (31:47):
Yes. Well, um, I guess we got to wrap up, it's been about 30 minutes or so. (Yeah.) I hope you've enjoyed us blabbing and blabbing about children's TV shows from our childhood and from our children's childhood. (Yeah.) Um, what TV shows do you guys like? I'd love to be able to know that, but um, you know, perhaps we - we'll set up a Twitter or something like that sometime, but uh.
Barney (32:12):
On the website we have the survey.
Shawn (32:14):
Yes, yes, yes, please. Uh, uh, as you'll see, we are available on Spotify and there's a link for a corresponding website, which has, uh, transcripts of, uh, I think all the episodes now and, um, some quizzes, some vocabulary. So some stuff, if you want to dig deeper and learn from what you've, uh, heard, or if you just to enjoy it, you know, I'm good either way.
Barney (32:42):
Yeah. Right. Yeah.
Shawn (32:44):
But we would love to hear from you through the survey because, um, we do this for fun, but we would love to hear that other people are listening to this and enjoying it as much as we do it.
Barney (32:55):
Yeah. And the, the one episode we did answering questions was a lot of fun. So (Oh, yes, yes, yes!) Yeah. We like that interactive feel.
Shawn (33:02):
Yes. Uh, go back and look at the, Ask Us Almost Anything questions (Yeah, right!) uh, show. It's pretty funny here. So, uh, once again, English All Over the Place, episode two, we're back with the new season, I guess. Uh, it's great to be back. Great to have you guys back and, uh, and great to be talking with my esteemed cohost Barney. Um, you know, this is the only time we get to talk.
Barney (33:30):
Yeah, it's true. Yeah. I miss those times where you were just across the way.
Shawn (33:35):
Yes. And going, can you believe this? Look at this YouTube video,
Barney (33:39):
Let me get out of my chair. I need some exercise.
Shawn (33:42):
Yes. Um, but through the magic of the internet, we can do this show together and bring it out for all you guys to hear. So, um, we hope you enjoyed it and we hope you're back, uh, next time. And uh, until then, uh, Barney, why don't you cut it - uh, send us off.
Barney (34:01):
Hey guys, we appreciate you listening and stay tuned for the next extra entertaining episode. We'll catch you then
Shawn (34:10):
On your own, on the same bat channel or bat internet - or something like that.
Barney (34:14):
Yeah, that was right in my mind too!
Shawn (34:16):
Yes. Okay. Bye for now guys.
