SUBJECT: Final Reflection
I began this class thinking I would just be re-taught common English themes I already have learned. Throughout this 16 week course I have learned everything from how to record a podcast to creating a brochure for the humane society. We began the course learning how to peer review and respond in discussion posts. By responding to the topic and then commenting on four other posts giving insight and sharing your ideas. This helped us learn how to write effectively through peer revision and reflection. The writing process is essential to learn for English class as well as for college papers, job applications, and any time you need to write a formal paper. Our second project we learned how to create podcasts. A podcast can reach many listeners and is an effective way to reach your preferred audience. My podcast discussed the impacts of racism in today’s society. Then our course began looking at rhetorical analysis using logos and pathos. Project 3 saw me and my group coming together to create a digital piece for a non-profit organization. We decided upon the Humane Society and contacted them and they gave us the go ahead to create a brochure. We used “The Big Four”: Contrast, Repetition, Alignment, and Proximity to organize our brochure. Working as a group and mostly digitally was a learning lesson for all of us. Communication was very important to get everyone’s participation and everyone’s ideas. Learning to work together to achieve what we needed to get done was a very important part that me and my group did very well. This led us into Project 4 which was a poster presentation, a one-page presentation to tell people about our project. We gathered relevant information from our project 3 and used it to create our project 4. This led us to our project 5, a web-text discussing women being sexualized in advertisements. My project used a skittles commercial that sexualized the eating of skittles by creating a pornographic like scene in the commercial. All of these projects and lessons helped me learn many skills I will be able to take with me into the future.
