My group chose to do the umbrella topic of gender roles, so I chose my Project 2 topic to be dress codes and its effects on girls’ self-perceptions. This is something that affects me personally because I’m still in high school, and I get dress coded all the time. I am grateful I was raised in a very informative household that lets me know my worth, so it was never a problem for me to stand up against the dress code in my school. I do have some friends that are not as confident as me, or were raised with judgy parents who confide in me about how they feel about dress code and its bias towards boys. My podcast is heavily based on my research using Galileo because this podcast is not an argument, and it’s meant to have scholarly sources, so my personal input is not needed. Through this research I was able to find how dress code contributes to how young girls see themselves at their current age, and how it may affect them in the future. I focused this podcast in a way that hopefully the reader can learn about these effects regardless of their gender.
