Title of Podcast: Ways to Improve the Employment Process of Disabled People.
Hello, my name is Peyton Strickland and in the following podcast I will be exploring some ways that disabled people can successfully gain employment. My group chose inequality in employment for our umbrella topic. In my podcast, I decided to discuss, ways that the employment process for those with disabilities can be improved. The disabled community often deals with discrimination. The discrimination that occurs toward them makes the job searching process and overall employment harder. Through my research, I have found many strategies and ideas that can help benefit people with disabilities when it comes to seeking employment. Most of my information came from scholarly journal articles found in Galileo, as well as articles provided by Professor McGinnis. I mention Iris Young’s "Five Faces of Oppression" and compare it to how disabled people are sometimes marginalized in society. I then also use facts and data regarding the employment rate of those with disabilities and go on to establish ways this rate can be improved. Some ways to improve employment in the disabled community are: confidence, people skills, employment counseling, and higher self-efficacy. In my podcast, I describe in depth some advice and strategies that disabled people can use in order to successfully become employed. With that being said, if you know anyone with a disability seeking employment, please feel free to share my podcast with them!
