Attention Grabber: In recent years, many steps have been taken in the fight against racial injustice. Though true equality is still not in humanity’s grasp, many think progress is being made in that front. True as that is, are we really addressing all the issues present? We explore that idea in analyzing Jason D. Williamson’s article titled “The indictments in the Elijah McClain and Ahmaud Arbery cases are revolutionary, and overdue” where he explores how recent events in the United States affects the world of racial injustice and the accountability of people in the upholding of racial equality. With his probe of the Elijah McClain and Ahmad Arbery cases, Williamson leaves much to be analyzed for deeper understandings of his argument. I personally chose to analyze this article because I was interested in analyzing an article that was more local so that it could be applicable to me and life in my town of Brunswick. And as tragic as the Ahmad Arbery shooting was, it is something that affects me locally that many can learn about racial inequality and oppression. Through my analysis of Williamson’s article, I hope to convey the meaning of his words so that people can see the changing scope of the world.
